Ethan stared at Damien like he hadn't heard him right. The fury in Damien's eyes was unmistakable, raw and unrelenting.
"I'm going to kill him," Damien repeated, calm in a way that was more terrifying than if he had been shouting.
Ethan stepped closer, lowering his voice as he spoke.
"Damien, I think you need to take a breath. Just think — this whole thing is taking a toll on you. Maybe you need to step back, reassess—"
"We're not doing that." Damien scowled, the fury in his eyes growing darker. "Ryan hasn't thought straight in years but I'm the one who needs a timeout?"
"I didn't mean it like that," Ethan replied carefully.
"You know what's taking a toll on me, Ethan? Every second wasted standing here while Chloe is god-knows-where with him. We can't afford morals now, we don't know where she is or what condition she's in."
Ethan saw it now. Damien was too worried to actually think straight and there was no getting through to him. Not in this moment.
