Chapter 87
I was trying to enjoy breakfast. Really, I was. The bread was only slightly stale, the eggs weren't green, and so far, no one had raised the alarm for a fire, by my standards, that counted as luxury. But the crew in the background was doing their absolute best to ruin my moment of peace.
Torrent was locked in a heated argument with the tavern cat, who had stolen his hat and was using it as her feline throne. She looked deeply unimpressed by Torrent's threats of declawing her if the hat wasn't relinquished.
Across the room, Cappy was peering through an empty tankard as though it were a spyglass. Every few seconds, he muttered things like, "Suspicious loaf of bread" or "That man has too many teeth." I didn't bother to ask what he was up to. I was starting to suspect the shipwreck had broken something in his brain.
I tried to focus on chewing and thinking. Neither task went particularly well.
