Chapter 35 - Chapter 34

"It has been some days since we saw each other my friend. It seems some change happened as I was away." Lancel smirked at Lucius, the last time he saw this socially awkward friend of his, he is unable to iniate a conversation with others without him or those who he knew around him. Lucius eyes twitched as his expression darkened. Lancel's words made him recall of the embarrassing things he did the first time he learnt he is to lead the men home. "Shut it…" The stalwart Barov's mouth curled as he recalls Lucius speech. Raising an Earthen Platform as he summon Earth Puppets. At the sight of Barov's almost indistinguishable smile, Lancel's expression turned into a smirk. It seems like his socially awkward friend did something that even the 'captain' found amusing. With a smirk plastered on his face, he gleefully glanced at Lucius as he spoke in a somewhat mocking and gleeful tone. "Ohoho, seems like I missed quite a lot." Lancel's eyes twitched even harder. Seeing Lancel's face and expression made him clench his staff tightly. Giving Lancel a warning as he huff and walked faster leaving them behind. "One more word Lancel, I'll make you regret it." "Hehe, captain do take pity upon me. Please tell me whatever did my friend do, I'm dying to know." Seeing Lucius storming off, Lancel eye brightened. Turning to Barov, Lancel couldn't hide the joy as he asked Barov to recount of Lucius 'glorious' deeds. Despite his distance from the two, Lucius ears pricked up at Lancel's inquiry. With a quick tap of the ground a small hole appeared before Lancel. Trying to trip the golden haired knight. Sensing the movement in the Earth Lancel dodge. As let out a teasing laugh. "Tsk. Instead of asking of such things why not brief us on what's going on in Hatr." Taking notice of his attempts failure, Lucius let a tut as he changed to another topic. A more serious one compared to the one prior. Lancel's eye turned serious at Lucius words. "Hatr, had been undersieged even before I arrived. The goblins outside came from the Great Forest. We suspect that two opposing goblin tribes fought, and the loser was driven out of the forest…" "It should've ended at that…" Lancel paused before touching his side, the location where he was once injured by the goblins chief and its mount. "But it seems like the goblins outside came chiefly outside had no plan of showing mercy to his defeated enemy…" "You've been injured?" Lancel's action of touching his side made Lucius realize that Lancel, movement is unlike before. His body tilts to one side as he walks, his pace slow compared to when he was in the Great Forest. Seeing Lucius, looking at him uo and down. Lancel sighed, its seems like his Old Friend realize of his inhury. He nodded to Lucius as he spoke the current state of his injury in an attempt to avoid worrying his friend too much. "Yes, I took a blow to my side… but it's fine now. At most it aches fr time to time, but with the use of my enery I'm able to speed up its recovery." With a short pause Lancel eyes turned to driection where gate where the gonblin army is located at. In a somber tone he spoke in whole honesty. "As long as the goblin chief's strength remain the same, I'll be able to still hold it off. As for its mount I leave it to you…" "Hmmm, okay, I understand. Don't move too much I'll cast a minor healing spell on uou later… For now, I'll focus one expanding the underground shelter." "Yes, focus on that first. We need it to be expanded as much as we can. It needs to be able to accommodate the non-combatants of Hatr." "It will take me an hour or two…" "Try to preserve your mana as much as possible… I can feel it… their prepareing for another siege today." "Understand…" "Barov, and the rest began showing sign of becoming bronze knights. We need to protect them and give them some opportunity to ascend if possible." "Hmmm, so that's why they felt slightly stronger than before. I see, I'll arrange most of the to guard the non-combatants, as for those nearly breaking through bronze knight… I'll lead them to defend the frontlint." "Hmmm, good." "We are here. Go and do your job first. I'll return to the walls, I'll take a few of Barov's men with me." _______________ Gahhhhh! Gahhhh! "Sir, Lancel the goblins had been advancing!" "Have the men at their post. Tell those still at home to muster here. Just like what we did before, now go!" The goblins approached the fortified village, their screeching and growlings signals for their invasion. Swooosh Arrows rain upon the goblins as they approach the wall. Stepping on the corpses of their fallen kin just outside the walls, they leverage the small hill of bodies, stepping on it and jumping from it to reach a higher part of the wall. As they climb up, some of them had their heads split open by the rocks and the woods dropped by the defenders. Their cries of pains fell into deaf ear as their kind did nothing but stepped on them. Days. The goblins had been outside of Hatr for days. Due to the goblins lack of preparation for the siege, they began to consume their own to sustain themselves. Their chief picks the weak and cowardly to be sacrificed to sustain the army. In fear of becoming the next menu for their kin. They began to fight one another to be the first to walls. To show their leader that they are not cowardly nor weak. Their fear of being turned into sustenance became stronger the longer the siege becomes. Extreme fear turns to desperation, as they began to disregard their life that they care for so much. In desperation they pushed and pulled their kin. Some charging on all fours as others run with all they can. All they wish at the moment is to reach the top of the wall and took a bite of the defender. Partake in the feast of human flesh, just beyond this cursed walls before them. And… to avoid a fate of being devoured by their own kind which is a fate worse than death. "Gah!" "Eeek!" "Ugh!" For every stab the spear men on the wall made, a goblin let out a squel and a cry of pain. The defenders held steadfast. They've been fighting the goblins for a while now. They know that as long as they held their ground sooner or later the goblins due to high casualties will began to retreat. Unbeknownst to them among the incoming army of goblins their hides two pairs of eyes, staring at every part of the wall. Looking for its weakness. After a sweep of the walls its gaze suddenly halted. As a mocking expression appeared on one of the creatures face. Its gates halted on the wooden wall. Its creaking sound echoed as the goblins pushing and shoving pushed their kind to press themselves on the wooden gates. The debris placed upon the inside of the gates caused to be stuck on its position. Wood from previously demolished houses and huged chunks of unused materials were dump the gates inner side. A quite effective defense against the weak and uncoordinated goblins. ___________ "Hya!" pichi With a wave of his axe, Barov beheaded a group of goblins trying to climb the wall. Their hands often separated from the rest the arms as the swift strikes of the axe led goblin terrified on its wake. For a moment the warriors led by Baros as the raged upon the small cretins. Their actions from clumsy and disorganized to a steady and organized. Gone was the defenders full of doubt about their survival, what remains are the defenders who risked their lives for themselves and most importantly for their love ones. To them every goblins they kill is another threat neutralized, one more lesser goblin who can hurt those behind them. But.. as much as the defenders tries… they couldn't deny it. They fear the goblins. They fear them as much as they hate them. Their anger is vented by their killing of their foes as for their anger… it came from the very action that they are doing at the moment. What if they fail? What if the goblins breached their defenses? So much questions and so much hesitation, it builds fear among the men. Fear that their action will bite them back.
