After Demon Slayer absorbed a vast surge of Haki from Ayr's body, the blade radiated an aura akin to a devil from the deepest pits of hell.
Ayr's presence skyrocketedâhis aura crackling with raw power and overwhelming dominance. Anyone nearby could sense it: the danger of his presence had reached its zenith.
"Godfall!"
With a low growl, Ayr slammed his foot into the ground, creating a thunderous boom beneath him. Dust scattered, and like a phantom wind, he vanished.
In an instant, he reappeared before Zephyr.
"Shuh!"
A sweeping blade of black, pure Haki-infused sword light tore through the air. The pressure behind it warped the space around it, as though the very world resisted its passage.
Zephyr's instincts screamed at himâthis was not a strike to take lightly.
He activated his advanced Armament Haki instantly, coating his entire body in its dense black sheen. Then, he shifted into a defensive stance, bracing himself to absorb Ayr's slash.
But the instant Demon Slayer made contactâ
BOOM!
An unrelenting surge of power flooded Zephyr's frame. Though his Armament Haki was strong, his stamina was nearly spent after his prolonged clash with Ayr. His muscles screamed, his bones cracked under the impact.
He couldn't hold it.
"Pffft!!!"
Blood burst from Zephyr's mouth as he was hurled backward like a meteor crashing to Earth.
Boom!!!
His body slammed into one of the fortified buildings of the Valley of the Gods, reducing it to rubble in an instant.
A thick plume of dust and shattered debris surged into the sky. Rubble scattered in every direction, burying the fallen Vice Admiral beneath the weight of stone and silence.
"Ze⊠Zephyr Vice Admiral?!"
"Damn it! Zephyr Vice Admiral has fallen!"
"And lookâAyr isn't even scratched!!!"
"This guy⊠he's a monster! He took down one of our strongest officers without receiving a single injury!"
"How is this even possible?!"
Panic rippled through the Marine forces.
Zephyr wasn't a Fleet Admiral. But among the Vice Admirals of the current generation, he stood at the top, trained personally by past legends and respected across the world.
He was a symbol of hope.
And yet⊠Ayr defeated him with overwhelming ease.
Not even a scratch marked Ayr's form. His coat still fluttered gently, his blade humming with residual Haki.
One of the Navy's greatest had fallenâand that sent shockwaves throughout the battlefield.
"Did Ayr just defeat Vice Admiral Zephyr?" John's brow furrowed slightly as he observed the crumbled ruins.
The speed at which Ayr had concluded the fight⊠even for him, was astonishing.
"Only Captain Rocks and Ayr are fighting at full strength now," Silver Axe said grimly, watching the field with cold eyes. "And between those two⊠the strength they're displaying is truly monstrous."
It was becoming clearâ
If Rocks were to fall today, the Rocks Pirates would collapse.
But that wouldn't mean the end of chaos.
It would mean Ayr rises to the top.
And Silver Axe⊠he had his own ambitions for dominance.
If he wanted the world, then sooner or later, he would have to face Ayr.
Ayrâthe inevitable storm.
"Jihahaha! Ayr, your strength never ceases to amaze!" Shiki the Golden Lion laughed boldly, sword-dancing through the air as his fleet battled around him.
With Zephyr down, one of the Marines' strongest cards was out of play.
That gave Shiki more freedom to maneuver, and more importantlyâmore time to search for Uranus, the ancient weapon he coveted.
Fewer top Marines meant more chaosâand chaos was Shiki's playground.
"Mamamama⊠Too much limelight in a war like this might not be a good thing, Ayr." Charlotte Linlin said with a smirk.
Yes, Ayr had defeated Zephyrâand without so much as a scratch.
But he wasn't invincible.
There were many enemies still to come.
The Marines had yet to unleash their full strength.
And figures like Deros, the enigmatic CPO commander, were still lurking.
Then there were the Roger Pirates, and the unpredictable Wald Piratesâboth approaching fast.
It wouldn't be long before everyone turned their eyes on Ayr.
"Zephyr!!!" Garp roared.
He had been locked in battle with Charlotte Linlin, trying to gain an edge.
But her monstrous physicality and Soul Soul Fruit powers were giving even the Fist of Love a hard time.
Despite all his efforts, he couldn't break through in time.
And now, he had to watch his closest comradeâhis fellow pillarâfall.
"Zephyr really lost?" Admiral Zhenwu muttered under his breath. "Well⊠I suppose it's not unexpected."
His tone was solemn, but calm.
Ayr had demonstrated master-level Conqueror's Haki, a power that surpassed what Zephyr could handle without possessing the third Haki himself.
Even Zhenwuâan elite among elitesâwasn't confident he could take Ayr down cleanly.
So Zephyr losing? It didn't surprise him.
"Still⊠the fact he held out as long as he did is a testament to his strength."
Just then, Kong finished off a wave of Rocks Pirates' elite foot soldiers.
His fists were covered in blood and Armament Haki, his eyes burning with focus.
Since Ayr's initial explosion of Conqueror's Haki, Kong had knownâ
Zephyr wouldn't win.
But even so, he had hoped Zephyr could hold out long enough for him to prepare.
Now, the moment had come.
"Let me be your opponent, Ayr."
Kong calmly removed his tattered Marine coat, revealing a muscular, battle-scarred body.
Every mark etched into his flesh was a testament to his years of serviceâeach one from a different war, a different battle.
He stepped toward Ayr slowly, each footfall radiating authority.
He hadn't taken much damage fighting the regular Rocks Pirates' cadres.
And now?
He was ready for the real threat.
"Kong Admiral!!!"
"Is Kong Admiral going to fight Ayr?!"
"He'll take Ayr down for sure!"
"Yeah! Kong Admiral is the strongest candidate to become the next Marine Marshal! He'll crush Ayr for sure!"
The Marines, whose morale had been crushed by Zephyr's defeat, suddenly stood straighter.
Kong had arrived.
And Kong wasn't just a symbolâhe was a colossus in the Marines, both in strength and reputation.
The World Government backed him.
The Admiralty backed him.
If Brownie stepped down tomorrow, Kong would be the next Marshal without question.
And now, he would fight Ayr head-on.
