Seeing two colossal Sea Kings locked in battle was no surprise to Ayr and John.
After all, this was their lair, a region teeming with countless Sea Kings, where such battles were an everyday occurrence.
BOOM!!!
A deafening explosion erupted across the sea, sending monstrous waves crashing in every direction.
Two enormous Sea Kings surfaced, their jaws locked as they tore into each other with primal fury.
John smirked, barely sparing them a glance before sneering at Ayr.
"Ayr, to tell you the truth, I've already uncovered a lead on the historical text of Uranus. This trip back is just to resupply."
In his arrogance, John hoped to provoke Ayr, reveling in his supposed advantage.
In order to push the Rocks Pirates' cadres to search relentlessly for the historical text, Rocks D. Xebec had left all expenses, supplies, and ship maintenance to them.
Among the Rocks Pirates, John spent the most money, not because of his dedication, but because he refused to work alone.
Unlike Ayr, he had brought along an entire crew, turning the voyage into a mixture of partying, drinking, and casual searching—after all, Rocks would foot the bill regardless.
But despite his love for luxury and excess, John knew the true value of what they were after.
The historical text meant a huge reward, a prize he wouldn't let slip through his fingers.
"Oh? Is that so?" Ayr responded with an easy smile.
What does it matter? I've already found the historical text.
John's brow twitched, a vein throbbing at Ayr's casual response.
"Tch… You bastard. Just wait. When Captain Rocks rewards me, you'll be the one left envious."
Ayr simply shrugged. "I don't think that's going to happen."
John scoffed. "Hah! Sounds like someone who hasn't found a single clue."
Ayr chuckled. "You're right. I haven't found any clues…"
"Because I already found the historical text."
Just as John opened his mouth to retort, the four massive Sea Kings ahead, their battle escalating, abruptly changed course—turning their aggression toward the two ships.
BOOM!!!
A devastating impact rocked the sea.
One Sea King, an enormous octopus-like beast, lashed out, sending a tentacle crashing into John's ship.
Caught up in taunting Ayr, John had failed to notice the attack.
CRACK!
The monstrous impact shattered the ship's railings, splintering the deck, nearly capsizing the vessel.
At the same time, another tentacle whipped toward Ayr's ship.
CHING!!!
Ayr unsheathed his Supreme Grade Blade, "Demon Slayer," in an instant.
By now, Ayr had completely mastered his blade, wielding it at the level of a Great Swordsman.
"SHING!!!"
He swung.
The very air split apart as his sword unleashed a ferocious, black lightning-infused slash—a terrifying blend of Advanced Conqueror's Haki and supreme swordsmanship.
The attack tore through the octopus's tentacle, cleaving it in two, sending chunks of its severed flesh crashing into the sea.
Ayr smirked at John. "You really let a weak thing like that damage your ship?"
John scowled, his pride stung. "Tch, shut up!"
Instead of arguing, he turned his fury on the Sea Kings.
CHING!!!
John drew his own Supreme Grade Blade. Like Ayr, he had honed his skills to Great Swordsman level.
"Demon Slash!!!"
His blade howled through the air, unleashing a white sword energy wave that sliced the octopus Sea King in half—a clean, precise kill.
Blood gushed, its gargantuan corpse slamming into the waves.
John turned to Ayr, smirking as if to show off.
Ayr, however, wasn't impressed.
Compared to true monsters like Roger, Whitebeard, or even Rocks, a Sea King was nothing.
With the immediate threat gone, they resumed sailing.
"BOOM!!!"
Without warning, a new Sea King—even larger—erupted from the depths, its jaws unhinged, aiming directly at Ayr's ship.
CRASH!!!
Its massive body slammed into the cabin, tearing through the wood, leaving a gaping hole in the ship.
Ayr clicked his tongue. "Tch. A sneak attack?"
The Sea King posed no real danger, but...
"The historical text!!!"
From the wrecked cabin, the prized stone slab began sliding toward the sea.
John's eyes widened.
"Wait… Is that…?"
The historical text tumbled closer to the edge, moments from sinking into the abyss.
Ayr's pupils shrank.
Without hesitation—
"SHING!!!"
A single, blinding slash decapitated the Sea King, blood spraying as its severed head crashed into the sea.
In a flash, Ayr dashed forward—
His fingers grasped the historical text just before it could fall into the depths.
John, still stunned, muttered in disbelief.
"Ayr… You… found the historical text?"
Just moments ago, he had been mocking Ayr for finding no clues.
And yet—
Here was the very thing they had all been searching for.
The reward Rocks D. Xebec had promised.
John had thought himself a step ahead, believing he had uncovered a valuable clue to the historical text's whereabouts.
He had assumed he was on the 'second floor' of the game.
But Ayr…?
Ayr was already in the atmosphere.
