Chapter 7 - Arcane

"Arcane, what is it? Arcane is energy. A power source that allows people to do incredible things, things beyond the reach of ordinary humans."

Mimya's voice filled the softly lit room, her words carrying a quiet authority. The late afternoon star filtered through the windows, casting golden light across the shelves lined with aged vases, books, and vials of mysterious objects. The crystalline ornaments scattered throughout the room shimmered, their flickering blue reflections dancing on the walls. In the center, two girls sat cross-legged on a plush, oversized rug.

Mimya's attire was different from the previous day, her outfit a mix of black and purple, layered with a skirt. In contrast, Oenhi wore bright yellows and oranges, her clothes as vibrant as her energy.

"Amazing things?" Oenhi thought. "Like those 'pew pew' blasts you shot? Or that pink stuff Sarah did?"

Mimya raised an eyebrow to how she explained the abilities they used yesterday. "That's one way to put it."

Oenhi suddenly leaned forward, her orange eyes wide with excitement. "So, how do I use it?"

Mimya smirk slowly turned to a smile at her enthusiasm, but remained composed. "First, you need to understand what cells are." She paused for effect before continuing. "Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things. Your body is made of countless cells. Arcane, however, is a special kind of cell."

Oenhi's gaze darted around as she processed the information. "Building blocks? That sounds weird and cool!" she exclaimed before quickly adding, "So how do I get them?"

"There are many ways," Mimya explained. "Some people are born with arcane cells, others receive them through help, some are cursed with them. But in your case, you were born into a family of arcane users, the Yagdas. That means you naturally inherited them."

Oenhi's head tilted slightly. "Hey, that's my last name! But... a family?" She hesitated. "The only family I know is my grandpa... And that's why I have to get him back. I can't lose him."

Mimya raised an eyebrow. "Oh? You don't know your parents?"

"Nope," Oenhi said simply. "I only remember Grandpa."

Mimya tapped her chin thoughtfully. "That's strange. I've heard stories about your family, the Yagdas, legendary arcane users who could bend trees and nature itself to their will. They were said to be a powerful clan."

Oenhi shrugged. "Sounds like a load of baloney to me."

She quickly shifted the conversation back to what truly fascinated her. "So, if I have these arcane thingies, how do I use them?"

Mimya smirked. "It's simple... sort of." She held up her hand, flexing her fingers as she spoke. "Arcane cells respond to your will. Think of them like soldiers, and you're their leader. You have to command them."

Oenhi blinked, slightly lost. "Oh?"

Mimya recognized the confusion and reworded. "Arcane cells react to your thoughts. If you want them to appear, you need to focus, like meditation. You direct them to a single point in your body."

To demonstrate, she raised her palm, her expression stilling as she concentrated. A flickering green light oozed into existence, swirling around her hand in an unstable, shifting glow.

"This," she explained, "is arcane in its rawest form, pure energy. It's the fuel for Arcanecraft."

Oenhi's eyes sparkled with fascination, but something else caught her interest. "Wait... what's Arcanecraft?"

Mimya replied. "Think of it as a way to shape arcane energy into miracles. Say you wanted to move an object with your mind, you would command your arcane cells to obey, making the object move. That's called a Cast."

Oenhi was intrigued but puzzled. "A Cast?"

Mimya anticipated the question. "Let me show you."

She extended her hand, forming her fingers into a trigger-like pose. The green light around her hand coalesced into a small, concentrated orb at the tip of her index finger. Oenhi's eyes widened in recognition, she had seen Mimya fire these green projectiles at Cecillet before.

"This," Mimya said, "is a Cast. I call it Vampa Pistol. I use arcane cells to fire energy like a gun."

"That's so cool!" Oenhi exclaimed.

Mimya allowed the green orb to fade, lowering her hand. "Casts are the abilities that arcane cells can do when given instructions with your focus. The practice of shaping and using those abilities? That's Arcanecraft."

Oenhi took a moment to absorb everything. "So, arcanecraft is the way of using arcane, and casts are the abilities created from it?"

Mimya nodded. "Exactly."

Her assumptions were correct and that pleased her, but something lingered in her mind. "Focus huh? But I didn't use any of that glowy thing with my leg back then, I made tree stuff like grandpa." Oenhi claimed.

"That's because there's more to the usage of arcane. You see, arcanecraft has another term different from the first term I explained." Mimya replied.

"Those are types of Arcanecrafts. Because, Arcane cells hold the ability to mimic nature, if an ingredient is introduced to arcane in its rawest state." Mimya stated.

"Like woodcraft, a collection of casts that involve controlling wood and tree-like aspects." Mimya explained.

Oenhi scratched her head, trying to process all the new information. And remembered that Sarahliza used strange abilities too. If that was arcanecraft what kind was it then. "So what kind does Sarah use?"

"Runecraft, casts that revolved around storing arcane into rune letters for further use." Mimya responded with a bitter taste, wishing to brush off that topic. "That is a complicated rabbit hole."

Onehi heard this, coming to the conclusion that each of them have a type of arcanecraft. This got her excited. "Oh. So you're saying I have woodcraft!?" Oenhi jumped to assumptions.

Mimya placed her hand below her chin and recalled the trigger of wood that was released from Oenhi's leg, it seemed like a failsafe to protect Oenhi.

Clearly Oenhi didn't know what she was doing when she was grabbed. Which means one thing.

"You do have it like your grandfather. But, you never used it on your own. Solomon must have placed an Auto Cast on you." Mimya mentioned.

"Eh? Auto cast?" Oenhi spoke with uncertainty.

"That is something to tell you for another day." Mimya replied.

This response didn't satisfy her, but at least Mimya stated she'd know later. and with that.

"Now let's see if you can make arcane appear in your palms like me." Mimya stated.

Touching Oenhi's right-hand, and opening it.

"Now focus. Think of a stimulating thought. That makes you feel relaxed, like a place. And focus on it, command your miracle." Mimya commanded softly.

Oenhi did as was mentioned, closing her eyes. But after a few seconds of thinking of a power awakening in her, nothing happened. She opened her eyes with a frown.

"I can't do it." Oenhi commented in displeasure.

But Mimya reassured, "You can, you're rushing the process. calm yourself down and focus on this one thought, then plead for the arcane to appear. Breathe in and breathe out."

Oenhi did as was told, inhaling and exhaling. Closing her eyes, and pictured her stimulating objective.

In her mind, she could see a green light. Sealed with rooted restraint, and yet from this light, branches of wood emerged from them. This was her arcane supply she was perceiving in her own way. She reached out to it as the wood wrapped around her like vines, and the green light shrunk into her hand.

She felt a stimulating feeling in her body, it was like a tingle.

Immediately opening her eyes. Only to see that in her palm was a light oozing with green energy. And from this energy, pieces of wood were growing out of it.

Demonstrating that she manifested arcane in her palms, but it wasn't a pure raw version like Mimya. Because her inherited woodcraft was creating wood out of it automatically.

"I- I did it!" Oenhi yelled with glee.

This glee resulted in the arcane energy to lose focus with its user, then transformed completely into a wood shaped ball in her hand that then dropped onto her palm.

"Huh? Where did the glowing thing go."

Mimya spoke on behalf of her performance, knowing Oenhi could use the arts. "You lost focus of keeping your arcane into a stable state, so your woodcraft automatically turned it into wood."

This information flooded Oenhi with thrill, so much so she leaned closer to Mimya who was bewildered by her acts "So, how do I attack with it?" Oenhi requested.

"Well that depends how you wanna use arcane in a fight." Mimya commented.

"Oh! Grandpa taught me baseball and how to hit things with a bat. And he taught me how to kick good, I'm a great kicker. " Oenhi said, while placing one of legs in the air.

This information puzzled Mimya with humor, impressed that Oenhi managed to keep her balance while doing so. "Sure, those will be helpful." Mimya replied.
