Marcus stiffened when he heard Mia's query. He never envisioned that Mia would catch him looking at her. He cleared his throat and said to her, "It's nothing, Miss Wills. I was just thinking about something and got lost in my thoughts. Please don't mind; I was not staring at you; this was certainly not my intention."
Though Mia knew that the man was lying to her face, she still smiled at him with a knowing look in her eyes. She didn't corner him for answers because somewhere she knew that Marcus wouldn't tell her the truth. And these actions of his only further fuelled her suspicions towards Lucas.
What was going on in that man's head? And what did Marcus know for him to look at her with such a gaze?
"Let's go—" Marcus began when the elevator door opened, but Mia didn't wait for him to finish.
She sidestepped him and walked out into the corridor. Seeing her actions, Marcus touched the tip of his nose guiltily. It seemed like curiosity really killed the cat this time.
