Jonathan lay back on the bed, a bandage wrapped gently around his head. Slowly, his eyes opened. He winced, trying to sit up when Bretum rushed over and helped him gently into a sitting position.
"How are you feeling now?" Bretum asked softly.
Jonathan felt his temple with his hand, wincing again. "It's… nothing serious. Just a headache."
Bretum looked at him with concern. "Can you recall what happened to you?"
Jonathan furrowed his brow, focusing. "No. I don't. But. When I woke up, my head was pounding, and there was this weird smell right under my nose. Like something… chemical."
Bretum blinked briefly. "It's just the weather, or stress," he said offhandedly, brushing the suggestion away.
"Perhaps," Jonathan said, clearly not believing him.
"I'll give you some soup," Bretum said after a moment, his voice softer than before. Then he left the room.
There was a while before Jonathan entered the other room. William, who was already waiting, hugged him tightly immediately.
