The next morning, students gathered in a vast training arena. Master Veldan stepped forward and declared:
— "Power alone does not make a mage. Today, we will test your control and discipline."
Each student was tasked with creating and stabilizing a sphere of energy. Lyra succeeded with ease, producing a perfectly balanced orb of light. Reynald conjured a searing flame that pulsed with raw power.
Kael extended his hand. A blue glow flickered into life—but as he tried to stabilize it, the energy burst violently, throwing him to the ground.
Laughter erupted around him.
— "Did this guy cheat his way in or what?"
— "Even a kid could do better!"
Kael gritted his teeth. He wanted to shout back, but he knew better—his performance spoke for itself.
Master Veldan watched him carefully.
— "Great power is worthless without control. It's up to you to prove you belong here, Kael."
Kael stood up, fists clenched. Maybe he wasn't ready yet… but he wasn't about to give up.
