Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: The Battle Ends

Silas stepped down from the battle platform, his expression calm.

His opponent, Tetsuo, was in a tough spot.

If it were just paralysis, he could accept it. But now, burn had also come into play.

Was his luck really this bad?

During the clash between Combusken's Thunder Punch and Hitmontop's Mach Punch, Hitmontop had unfortunately been paralyzed.

This greatly restricted its movements.

Silas naturally wouldn't let this chance slip by and commanded Combusken to follow up with a Fire Punch to maximize the damage.

Who would have thought that misfortune would come in pairs? After a few more punches (or claw strikes), Hitmontop ended up burned as well.

Now, it had no chance of engaging in close combat.

Sparks of electricity occasionally flickered across Hitmontop's body, causing its movements to stiffen.

Even when it managed to shake off the paralysis for a moment, the burn flared up again, making it flinch in pain and slowing its reactions further.

What followed was a relentless assault from Combusken.

With a final Uppercut followed by a Double Kick, Hitmontop collapsed to the ground, losing its ability to fight.

Throughout the battle,Combusken had only taken some damage at the start. Beyond that, all it had spent was stamina.

After the match, Silas handed over both Pokémon to Nurse Joy, who had been assigned to handle medical care. In no time, they were fully recovered.

Just then, the announcer declared that the morning battles had concluded. The remaining 12 matches would resume at 12:30 in the afternoon.

Silas quickly did some calculations in his mind each battle had ended even faster than he had expected.

Returning to his room, he prepared lunch for himself and his Pokémon while briefly reviewing the morning's matches.

Roggenrola had surprised him. Its control over Stealth Rock was better than anticipated, and its timing in battle was excellent.

As for Combusken, its firepower seemed to have reached the standard he was aiming for.

At first, Silas had chosen Thunder Punch with the hopes of paralyzing his opponent while also sharpening Combusken's close-combat skills.

After all, if things turned south, Combusken could always use its Speed Boost ability and Agility to quickly create distance.

But Combusken had performed well. It could barely hold its own in close combat against Fighting-type Pokémon, and luck had been on its side, triggering paralysis.

So, Silas had switched to Fire Punch. Since paralysis had already landed, Blaziken's victory was practically assured.

With the strength gap between them, he also wanted to see the current probability of Combusken inflicting burn status.

And clearly, Combusken's fire temperature and energy output were now strong enough to burn certain Pokémon quickly.

As for those who thought his battle commands were reckless? Silas didn't care. He had achieved his goal, and that was all that mattered.

Before he knew it, the one-hour break had passed, and he returned to the battlefield just as the first afternoon match began.

This time, he didn't space out. Instead, he paid close attention.

After all, one of the trainers battling now was a potential opponent Reggie.

Regarding the information Brock had given him, Silas believed that real-time observation was necessary for an accurate assessment.

Soon, Reggie's match ended.

Silas had to admit, even though he didn't have a great first impression of Reggie, the guy was undeniably skilled in both battle and training.

His synergy with his Pokémon was incredibly high. And while his commands leaned toward the hot-blooded, passionate style, he had a knack for seizing small advantages and turning them into overwhelming victories.

In simple terms once he gained the upper hand, he never let up.

The following matches weren't as interesting.

Before long, the quarterfinals arrived.

Silas got lucky his opponent had two Pokémon at the standard level, making it a routine elimination.

The other strong competitors also managed to avoid each other in the bracket, except for the unlucky Reggie.

Reggie had to face one of the three Gym Leader heirs, whose starter Pokémon had already reached Advance-level.

In the end, Reggie managed to win but not without exposing some of his strategies.

"A drapion with the Sniper ability, huh? A bit stronger than the data suggests, but nowhere near Combusken's level. Roggenrola can also chip away at it with Rock-type moves."

"But Roggenrola might struggle against his Swalot… I'll need to prepare for that."

"As for his Staraptor, I'll leave that to Pidgeot. It shouldn't be a problem."

Silas planned things out in his mind.

He saw Reggie as his biggest obstacle to winning the championship.

The two other foreign competitors were strong, but only to a certain extent. Their two Advance-tier Pokémon had just barely entered that level, meaning their strength wasn't quite on par with Reggie or himself.

Stretching a bit, Silas continued watching the remaining matches.

Even if he was confident, it was always wise to study every potential opponent.

After all, knowing yourself and your enemy ensured victory.

Sitting still for so long made his body feel stiff.

"Silas Alaric, the rival I acknowledge… I hope we can have an ultimate battle tomorrow!"

A familiar, slightly overdramatic voice called out behind him.

Silas's body stiffened. He slowly turned his head, confirming the speaker through his peripheral vision.

Then, without a word, he turned back around and walked straight out of the arena.

"My destined rival! Why do you ignore me? Have you realized the gap between our strength?"

No, Silas thought.

I just can't handle how embarrassing you are.

Picking up the pace, he escaped as fast as he could.

The last thing he wanted was to get dragged into Reggie's cringe-worthy antics.

Reggie watched Silas retreat in what seemed like panic, lost in thought.

"Is he trying to act intimidated so I lower my guard?"

"A true trainer never underestimates their opponent… As expected of the rival I acknowledge, he's been setting up his strategy from this very moment!"

Nodding to himself, Reggie felt like he had learned something valuable.

Back in his room, Silas finally let out a relieved sigh.

Reggie was the embodiment of "If I'm not embarrassed, then it's the other person who feels awkward."

And he had no problem with that as long as Silas wasn't involved.

Just thinking about What Reggie had loudly declared in public made his scalp tingle.

"You and Reggie seem pretty close, huh? Haha!"

A voice came from the balcony. It was Asakawa Chisato, clearly enjoying the situation.

Silas rolled his eyes. "No, I don't know him. Not at all."

"Oh? But you guys seem so familiar!"

"Not in the slightest," Silas deadpanned.

"By the way, were you at the arena too?"

"Of course! Not just me lots of people were watching. This tournament is kind of our annual entertainment event."

Asakawa Chisato chuckled.

"Watching you youngsters battle with all your energy is quite the sight!"
