Zain smirked.
Down the other end of the ruined lot, the Velvet Demon had already cornered her prey.

"You two," he said, cracking his knuckles as he turned to face the remaining pair.
"You'll fight me."
The one on the left stepped forward, her skin shimmering like blackened glass, hard and jagged.

"You're a hero," she growled.
"Why are you siding with the Velvet Demon?"
Her partner stood behind, eyes narrowed.
Threads of red weaved across her palms like living wires. Blood Control.
"She killed a lot of heroes," the blood woman said.
"And you work with her? You're a disgrace."
Zain shrugged, brushing back his coat. "If you want the answer—"
He darted forward. Their eyes widened.
"—try and take it from me."
Obsidian launched first, stomping into the pavement with a burst of strength.
Her shoulder collided with his chest like a battering ram.
Zain twisted, sidestepping with Quick Step and slamming an elbow straight into her lower back.
