Shantel lowered her gaze, almost shy for a second. "You approve?"
"I'd pay a million just to see you walk in that dress."
She raised an eyebrow. "You're not buying me," she smirked but couldn't deny the way her heart leapt in her throat when she heard him say that.
"No," Richard said. "I'm complimenting you. There's a difference. But I'm also having second thoughts," he added.
"About?"
"Allowing you go anywhere in that gown. Except you promise not to leave my sight the entire evening," he added rather too possessively.
Her lips parted, surprise flickering across her face. Why was he continuously speaking and acting as if things were real between them? Besides, it was just the two of them here. Who was he putting up the show for?
Or was he indirectly trying to flirt with her? But that wasn't necessary. They both know there's no future for them.
"Pick something else," Richard said, and glanced at his ringing phone.
