"Since you love your position of manager so much and clearly don't want the post of an executive assistant that I wanted to offer you, we might as well leave it at that. You may leave now," Shantel said dismissively.

Ralphael's eyes nearly fell out of their socket as he stared at Shantel as if he'd just seen a ghost.
So she wasn't going to fire him in the first place? And out of fear I rejected such a juicy position? What was I thinking?
"I said you may leave my office. I don't have all day to deal with someone like you," Shantel said without looking up.
Ralph didn't know what to say or do to turn things around.
The thought that he'd bungled the opportunity of a lifetime by panicking over a perceived dismissal ate at his entire body like a virus.
He'd spent a decade running the mall, sure, but how many people got a chance to become the owner's executive assistant?
