Chapter 29
The room was blindingly white. The walls, the people walking through—everyone was dressed in white and blue. Becky stared into Nate's ward through the glass on the door.
He was lying there lifelessly. The one thing she loved most about him—his black-blue eyes—was closed. His smile and his warmth were hidden. A slow tear slipped down her cheek as she bowed her head.
I guess I wasn't that important... and never will be, Becky thought.
A female nurse walked toward her. Her hair was tied into a tight bun, green eyes focused, and she wore a crisp blue uniform.
"Are you Mr. Hart's family?" the nurse asked.
Becky shook her head. "No..." she whispered.
"You're his girlfriend?" the nurse continued, raising a brow.
"Friend. I'm his friend," Becky said, and the nurse nodded in realization.
"Are you the only one here?" the nurse asked.
