Chapter 190 - Chapter 183 – A Unique Filming Experience

After taking the movie role, Lin Yuan got swamped. Right after finishing a TV drama, he jumped into filming the movie. His daily routine was a relentless cycle: makeup in the morning, shooting, rushing between locations, quick meals, more filming, wrapping up at night, studying the script, then repeating it all the next day.

This movie offered a stark contrast to his previous projects. Instead of complex plot twists and conflicts, it exuded a strong sense of everyday life. The story centered on Mr. Xiaoqi. After his wife passed away, he set off on a cross-country adventure with his children. Together, they sampled local dishes, using food as a way to heal his broken heart.

Lin Yuan played Mr. Xiaoqi's son, while Tang Tian took on the role of the daughter. Surprisingly, the actor cast as the lead, Mr. Xiaoqi, was an old acquaintance of theirs—Liu Shi, who they'd met during a survival challenge show.

When Lin Yuan saw Liu Shi on set, he was taken aback.

"Uncle Liu?" Lin Yuan stared at the man in disbelief. "What are you doing here?"

"Haha, I could ask you the same!" Liu Shi laughed heartily, clapping him on the shoulder. "I've heard you're really making a name for yourself in acting. Never thought we'd end up in the same crew."

Lin Yuan arched an eyebrow. "You usually play serious parts. Why take on a gourmet role?"

"Age catches up with you. It's time for something more down - to - earth. You know, in today's society, many professionals face the risk of being phased out once they hit 35. You'll understand when you're a bit older," Liu Shi said with a smile. "Besides, this movie is great. We get to eat well and sample most of the country's best dishes."

Lin Yuan nodded. "Fair enough. Looking forward to a great collaboration."

During one shoot, the crew visited a renowned street stall famous for its stinky tofu. According to the script, Mr. Xiaoqi brought his children there. Though the strong smell repulsed them at first, they reluctantly took a bite at their father's urging and were instantly hooked.

In reality, things didn't go as smoothly.

As soon as the stinky tofu was served, Tang Tian and Liu Shi—who played the younger Mr. Xiaoqi—turned pale.

"Ugh…" Tang Tian instinctively covered her nose. "This smell is…"

Liu Shi's face drained of color. He grabbed his chopsticks, but retched before taking a bite. "I can't. No way."

The director and crew exchanged awkward glances.

Lin Yuan, sitting beside them, couldn't help but laugh. He picked up a piece and teased, "It stinks, but trust me, it tastes amazing. Give it a try."

Tang Tian eyed him warily. "Are you sure?"

"Positive." Lin Yuan took a bite, exaggeratedly savoring it. "Crispy outside, tender inside, perfectly seasoned. Delicious!"

"Cut!" the director shouted. "Perfect! Let's keep rolling. That was incredibly authentic. Just a few more bites and we're golden."

Tang Tian and Liu Shi forced themselves through the scene. The moment the director called "OK", they flung down their chopsticks and gulped water, desperate to get rid of the taste.

Lin Yuan couldn't resist teasing them. "Come on, your reactions were way over the top!"

During another shoot at a century - old restaurant, they were set to film a scene featuring boneless goose meat. The script had Mr. Xiaoqi introducing the dish, with his children praising its texture and flavor.

Before shooting began, Tang Tian and Lin Yuan grew restless waiting and started tasting the food.

And then…

"Damn, this is incredible!" Tang Tian exclaimed, grabbing piece after piece.

Lin Yuan nodded between bites. "So tender, and the flavor is amazing."

Liu Shi watched them, amused. "Hey, save some for filming!"

Tang Tian froze. "… Oops?"

Just then, the director strode over, his brows knitting at the half-empty plate. "How's it already half-eaten? It was just put on the table!"

An awkward hush fell over everyone.

With a sigh, the director relented, "Fine. Order another plate."

One of Lin Yuan's most frequent props in the movie was a childhood - favorite instant noodle cup, symbolizing warm memories from his character's youth. During filming, he held the steaming cup, took a deep breath as the script required, and started eating.

The first bite was delicious. The second was still good. And then…

Wait, it was already gone?

Lin Yuan stared at the empty cup in disbelief.

[Jiuchong: … Seriously? Two bites and it's finished?]

[Lin Yuan: Didn't think it'd be this tiny. Seriously, did you show up just to whine about the portion?]

[Jiuchong: Yup. Bored out of my mind. Just needed to say something.]

The director burst out laughing behind the monitor. "Alright, that's a wrap for this shot."

As filming neared its end, the movie gradually came together.

In early September, the crew officially wrapped up production.

Standing on the set, watching as cameras and lighting equipment were packed away, Lin Yuan felt a pang of nostalgia. This movie was unlike anything he'd ever done. Without intense conflicts or dramatic turns, it carried a gentle warmth that lingered long after the credits rolled.

That evening, the entire cast and crew came together for a goodbye dinner. Liu Shi lifted his glass, beaming at Tang Tian and Lin Yuan. "Working with you two has been a blast. Let's team up again soon!"

Lin Yuan clinked his glass. "Definitely."

Tang Tian chewed on her last piece of grilled meat, sighing. "Who knew we'd get to eat our way across the country while filming?"

Lin Yuan grinned. "Right. But the movie's what matters. Hope viewers love it."

====================
