The Unmasked
Chapter 6
The class was in session. Magnus Sir stood before the students, teaching them an important lesson.
"Those who awaken the power in their blood," he explained, "don't just gain supernatural abilities. According to their blood color, their strength, stamina, and durability are five times greater than an average human. That's why ordinary weapons—guns or blades—can't harm them."
He paused to let that sink in.
"In most countries, Awakeners are not part of the regular military forces. This is to maintain a power balance between normal humans and Awakeners. Instead, Awakeners join special forces specifically trained to fight demons. And the more they practice their power, the more their physical capabilities increase—by about 10% over time."
The whole class listened carefully. Leon and Isla were extra focused, taking notes as Sir continued.
Meanwhile, Finn had his head down, fast asleep on his desk.
Fanny, sitting beside him, smirked and slapped the back of his head.
Finn suddenly shot up, shouting, "Yes, sir!"
The entire class burst into laughter.
Leon shook his head and muttered, "What a stupid friend I have…"
Magnus Sir raised an eyebrow. "Good morning, Mr. Finn. Meet me in my office after class. I need to teach you a few manners about staying awake."
Finn's face dropped. He turned toward Fanny, who was laughing at him.
He cursed her silently but knew it was too late now—he was definitely in trouble.
The bell rang. Class was over.
Students filed out of the room. Leon, Isla, Finn, and Fanny walked together.
As they exited, they noticed a familiar face: the twin brothers. Finn and Leon recognized them instantly.
One of the twins used his blue blood power to freeze a girl's food. She slipped and fell to the ground, embarrassed. The twins laughed.
Leon and Finn rushed to help her up. Fanny supported the girl and guided her toward her dorm.
Anger boiled in Finn's eyes. He grabbed one of the twins by the collar. "You bastard! Didn't that big incident knock some sense into your rotten brain?"
Leon quickly pulled Finn back. "Stop, Finn. Let him go."
"But—" Finn protested.
Leon shook his head. "We're in school. If we fight here, we'll be expelled."
Finn exhaled sharply and let go, giving the twin a slight shove.
The twin smirked. "Yeah, that's what I thought. And now we know the truth, Leon. You're not from a noble family like you claimed in the forest. You're just a liar… with cursed, demonic purple blood."
Leon's fists clenched. His jaw tightened.
But before he could react, Isla stepped forward.
"Maybe they can't do anything to you," she said coldly, "but I can."
The twins immediately straightened. They knew Isla well—she came from one of the four noble families of the country. If she wanted, she could have them expelled instantly.
"We were just talking, ma'am," one of them said nervously.
"Then stop talking," Isla replied. "And leave. Now."
With scowls on their faces, the twins walked away, shooting Leon a sharp glare.
Isla let out a sigh. "What jerks."
She turned to Leon. "What were they talking about? The forest? Have you met them before?"
Finn nodded. "Yeah, on our way to the academy. Those two were bullying Amelie. To protect her, Leon lied and said he came from a noble family."
Isla blinked. "Oh… so that's what happened."
But as soon as Amelie's name was mentioned, Leon froze.
His expression changed. Anger. Sadness. Emptiness. He clenched his fists and walked away without a word.
Finn started to follow him, but Isla gently held him back.
"Let him go," she said softly. "He needs some air."
Leon sat alone under a tree, staring blankly at the sky.
Memories of Amelie flooded his mind—how they met, how he saved her, the pain she shared with him, and the promise they made to stay together.
Remembering all of it felt like being stabbed in the heart.
Suddenly, a deep voice came from behind.
"Today, the sun is beautiful."
Leon turned. It was Magnus Sir.
Sir knew exactly what Leon was thinking about. When Amelie died, Leon's scream echoed across the academy. Thunder had cracked the sky, and rain poured down. It was the most heart-wrenching moment Magnus had ever witnessed.
Leon asked quietly, "Sir… what are you doing here?"
But Sir ignored the question. He sat beside him and said, "You know… when we love someone too much, they become our whole life. And when we lose them, it feels like our life has been taken too."
Leon listened silently.
Sir continued, "But if we stay trapped in that pain, we let it happen again. Someone else, someday, will go through the same loss… unless we stop it."
Leon looked down. "I understand, sir. But… what do you want me to do?"
"Nothing," Magnus said gently. "Just make sure what happened to you… doesn't happen to anyone else."
With that, Sir stood and walked away.
Leon sat there, still.
And then, something changed inside him.
He wiped his eyes, clenched his fists, and whispered to himself,
"This is not the time to be sad.I have to become stronger—strong enough to destroy every last demon."
He remembered Amelie's smile.
"I will take your revenge, Amelie. I promise."
