The three cars they had chosen were a fine blend of luxury, elegance, speed and most importantly, defence. The cars had been fitted with enough defensive and weapon-like gizmos to put the presidential vehicle "The Beast" to shame.
In the first car sat Daniel, his wives, Angel and Isabella, with Carmen and Mateo being the final occupants.
Carmen and Mateo had been chosen to sit in the first vehicle due to their destructive powers and their ability to take on multiple people at ones.
The drive to the palace was smooth since there weren't any people driving about due to the lack of fuel and the destruction of multiple energy grids. The few hungry people seen on the road also chose to back away in fear of being run over by the speeding vehicles.
About 2 minutes away from the palace they were met with a very tall blockade made out of stacked cars. This wasn't a problem since Mateo and Carmen could easily destroy the shabby defence mechanism. The problem was the hundreds of people standing in front of it like zombies from any regular doomsday movie.
Firing bullets into the sky to get their attention, Daniel revved the engine, signalling his desire to pass through.
Out of hunger and desperation, the people surrounded the car, begging for sustenance, an event which hurt Daniel and Angel the most after seeing what had become of their proud nation.
Communicating with Wilson, the driver and sole occupant of the middle car, a reinforced SUV limousine hybrid tasked with the transportation of food, weapons, clothes and other necessities, a crate of canned food was offloaded a distance from the cars.
The hungry crowd who had already lost all humanity and reasoning run to the open crate, pushing and scratchings anyone in their way.
Seizing the chance, Wilson took hold of the few children among the stampede and pulled them aside, an easy feat considering the fact that he was a TIER 2 while the children were un-evolved due to not meeting the lower age limit to be called upon. The fact that they didn't resist also helped.
The children soon found themselves in the limo and were then given some bread and canned soup as sustenance, bringing a gleam of joy to their otherwise dead eyes.
Seeing them gorge on the food without even questioning his motives, Wilson was stumped but then again he didn't know the horrors they had to go through to survive as long as they did.
With the children secured and the hungry human horde gone it was time to deal with the wall of cars ahead of them.
Mateo and Carmen who had not been of use so far stepped up to do their job.
Using mana to form a small earth boulder around a grenade, Carmen then coated the boulder in flames and with a combined effort they sent the attack flying into the middle of the wall which their drones had detected was 5 cars thick.
*BOOOOMMM!!*
The makeshift wall exploded, sending bits and pieces of flaming metal flying in all directions including theirs, but their vehicles tanked the debris. The stragglers had also been warned beforehand and so no one got hurt.
With a clear path ahead everyone resumed moving, fire in their eyes as they charged into the palace grounds, ready to take the throne.
*Meanwhile back at the Palace*
"Brother, do you think that's him coming"
"I don't think anyone else would dare announce themselves in such a manner."
"Mmm. Then I suppose we should go welcome him."
"Right you are. Guards get ready. The prodigal son has returned and we shall go welcome him."
This was the conversation that took place between a set of identical twins. One being the current King and the other to be used as a spare.
As for who was whom, nobody except their father knew and he was deceased, leaving them the throne and the power to switch places on it, after all, who would find out.
The small convoy of the Smiths and Windsors had finally arrived and found themselves parked right in front of the palace steps and everyone got down, obviously in their defensive light armours.
Clinking his axes together Daniel shouted, "BASTARDS WHERE ARE YOU, I HAVE COME TO CLAIM MY BIRTHRIGHT EVEN IF I HAVE TO KILL YOU FOR IT."
In response, the doors opened and out walked the royal guards with guns pointed, led by their leader Jack Sulivan and followed by the King, his brother and both their families.
Circling the intruders as per their training dictated, the royal guards watched as the Royal Twins walked down the stairs and stopped a few feet away.
One of them opened their mouths and said, "Don't worry brother, the throne is all yours". Turning behind him he said "Isn't that right, Aiden". "It is, Aidan"
In front of everyone, the two bowed showing sincerity and showing that they were no more Kings, an act that shocked everyone including their own wives and children who knew just how much they loved the throne.
Signalling the guards to lower their weapons, the ex-kings then led everyone to the throne room where the new king was to be crowned.
