Chapter 34 - Nitty gritty

Berlin sat in front of the window of her room, staring at the trees

The suite looked like it was in a palace. Pulling the heavy cobalt curtain open with the remote, she looked out of the windows. It was all blue and green. Trees, birds and flowers everywhere. The sun was hidden by the clouds. Underneath, servants were going about doing their duties.

This place looked much better than she had expected.

She glanced behind her. The king-size bed was placed in the middle. On top of the white sheet, a thick layer of rose petals was laid to form the shape of love.

"Such a waste" Berlin wondered how many roses they had to get to make all this.

Several minutes had passed since she left the servant and Karlos. And she sat there with a dazed look in her eyes. Taking a nap was out of the window and it didn't look like it was going to return anytime soon.

She brought her hand up to her face, touching her lips with her fingers.

The memories of Karlos's lips on hers were still fresh as if she was still being kissed. And her heart shuddered at the memory of it.

The redness that appeared on her cheek earlier had not left her.

Her willingness a few minutes ago had taken her aback. Which had become a frequent thing. Why was she so emotional?

He was clearly into it but it was only natural to be attracted and to lust over someone, right? Berlin closed her eyes to calm her nerves. Trying to kiss Karlos was wrong- so wrong.

She let out a sigh shaking her head inwardly.

Karlos was handsome and a walking aprosindriac. And though she had plans to dump him, her mind and will were weak when it came to him. Craving for his company. Berlin placed her hands on her cheeks, feeling how warm her face turned.

While she was daydreaming, with her head in the clouds, She heard the sound of a bell outside the resort. Before Berlin had the opportunity to stick her head out to check out where it came from, she suddenly recalled why this resort seemed familiar to her... Tasha had been here and in this very room.

The blood that had rushed up to her face quickly drained down, turning her pale and almost like a ghost.

Some things did make sense. Especially when

Her thoughts drifted to the time when Tasha had video-called her in and sent photos of this place in her previous lifetime.

Berlin closed her eyes. The memories of the past started to slowly slip into her mind.

Growing up in the Morgan residence had thought her to be extra thorough as any mistake she made. Mrs. Margaret would use it against her.

She was not ready to redo things and even more, that was what her punishment entailed. Her adoptive mother would make her redo the work at home if there was one spec uncleaned or an error noticed.

So she learned the hard way and made sure to clean the dishes thoroughly.

The Morgan family had just taken dinner and all had retired to their rooms. She had been living here for almost a year now. She sat there in the room all alone, with the room's door closed as if the other people of the house were trying to barge in and beat her up for work not done.

Just then her phone rang, pulling her out of her bed.

Placing her foot down on the ground, and picked up the call.

"Tasha"

She always kept her phone on 'Do not disturb mode' as she was swamped with work in the house.

It was then she recalled that her friend traveled with the man she had started seeing.

It had been a week now since she last heard from her friend.

As much as Berlin wanted to ask her who the man was, she didn't want to look and sound like a mother hen.

And Tasha seemed much content with it.

"Hello, Bell"

"Hey dear. Good evening."

"Phew! Thank you were the one who answered. I thought that grumpy old lady had seized your phone again."

"The grumpy witch didn't."

"Hmmm. You didn't pick up your call when I called yesterday. Are you okay?"

"Yes, sorry about that. I had quite a bit of a headache."

"Oh! Have you taken any meds yet? You want me to get some drugs from the pharmacy when I get back." Tasha asked, the concern from her words warmed her heart. Nonetheless, she rejected her help.

Berlin wasn't one who liked to take help from others. She hated being a bother, especially as Mrs. Margret and Chloe never stopped making her feel like a useless parasite in their lives.

"No need dear. I am fine." She lied to her.

Of course, nothing about being in her current situation made her fine. But she didn't want her friend to worry about her.

"If you are okay, then would you like to guess where your lovely bestie is?"

"Love, I am too exhausted. Just tell me. Hmmm." She yawned, stretching her arms as a show of tiredness.

"You kill joy. Fine, I will show you instead of telling you." Tasha quickly switched from a voice call to a video.

Berlin was speechless as Tasha showed her around through the call.

It was at this point that Berlin took the time to carefully look at the house and admire it.

Then she led Berlin to several places. Until they finally got to a room where rose petals were lying on the bed.

"And this is where all the nitty gritty happens."
