In a dark quiet room, devoid of any sound from outside world. A single light enlightens the room, revealing a wooden table and a chair.
On the chair sits Lin, tied up with no means of escape. with a face full of rage and tension, he stares with murderous intention into the darkness. His face is bruised, his clothes are torn blood is rushing across his entire body.
And still, his spirit is not broken.
Out of the darkness a figure appears and comes under the sole dim light in the middle of the room. The person is a boy with short, organized hair, black like the solemn shadows surrounding them. His clothes looked expensive, made of black silk with fancy decorations making patterns of gray waves. His eyes were majestically red.
The superior sleeper was one of the twins of Valor. Gerard looked down on Lin, as if appraising his handiwork.
"Our matter is settled, but as part of a contract we made, there is someone else who'll have to see you face to face before we're letting you go."
Lin trying to break his restraints with no veil. Drops of blood and sweat falling from his face. His exhaustion is beyond human capabilities, yet these weaknesses are strengthening him.
Helplessly watching Gerard fading back to black as he finds himself alone in the dark room once again. Shortly after, he heard footsteps approaching. These footsteps were different from Gerard, yet he knew them well.
Without further ado, Lyney appeared in front of him.
Right then, Lin figured out the entire situation quite easily. The contract, the timing and the culprit.
Lin let out a deep sigh. His exhaustion and tiredness finally caught up with his body and lost his will to break free.
'Why?'
Lin thought tiredly, he started to feel lightheaded and relaxed all of the sudden. But he did not resist.
Maybe it was due to the exhaustion that accumulated or Lyney's attribute that caused him to lose the tension from earlier, or perhaps it was just the same reason he followed her around all this time.
Lyney broke the silence with the same unemotional and neutral tone in her voice
"Will you tell me why you were following me all this time?"
The boy's spirit finally seemed broken, as if all motivation was lost at the moment she showed herself.
With a weak voice and expression full of despair, he did not care anymore.
"I followed you… because you look like my deceased sister.
"We both went on the trial of the first nightmare at the same time. And although I survived the hellish nightmare, my sister lost her life.
"Her death was recent, but she was stuck in the nightmare for months. I had not seen her ever since then.
"After enrolling into the academy, I find you and I was hoping the assessment, or her death was wrong… but you're nothing like her.
"Your demeanor is different, your past does not match, and worst of all, you don't even recognize me."
Lin said in a sobbed and whining voice. His voice is shrieking and unsteady, emotion floods his throat, making him choke on his words.
As the tears running down his eyes and blurring his vision, he could not look at Lyney any longer.
His reality was broken, and all hope he held onto were abandoned. The boy breaking down in front of Lyney was nothing like the same person who stood by her for the past few weeks and guarded her comfort.
Lyney could only watch, with no way of helping. Her empty emotions were a cruel flaw, but her true flaw was even worse.
[Flaw: Impurity]
[You are missing a piece of yourself and -unknown-]
The flaw did not just make her lose her emotions, but also any record of "-unknown-" which in that case would be her forgotten brother.
Her past was overridden, and personality was changed to fit with the twisted will of fate. Leaving the lost siblings forever separated.
Lyney looked at Lin, with a faint glint of hope roaming lost in the room.
The twisted joke the spell befell on the twins reached its punch line.
***
As I was running down the hallway, I tried to make the Regret Spirit of Lyney lead me to her. However, it seems I can only make it follow Lyne'ys trail. So, I'll have to retrace her steps to track her down.
Reaching the doors leading to the cafeteria, I stormed in, as the scene unfolds right in front of me.
The entirety of the room was filled with chaos. Each student took part in the giant fight. People threw weapons at each other, fought with aspects to fend off other students and did not seem to put an end to it anytime soon.
Sleepers struggled to survive while others resulted to fight back. Some seemed to have lost their minds, charging towards their classmates and friends with no explanation.
The cafeteria became a battlefield with each student aiming to achieve something unknown at the end.
Lyney's Regret Spirit kept moving forward with no delay. It could have meant the war broke out just recently.
'What is happening?'
Following the Regret Spirit, I approached the front of the kitchen, walking between the fights occurring everywhere.
A student came up charging at me with a metallic sword in his hand. Summoning my own sword, I blocked off his attack and grabbed his Regret Spirit.
However, the Regret Spirit was rumbling and red instead of grey. It's almost as if he went on a frenzy of anger and madness that coated his soul. He could not control his irrational thoughts like that.
Going across the room, I absorbed more and more Spirits to help me refine my body further.
The entire havoc left me with ten Regret Spirits at total. I did not want to fill or steal too much Regret Spirits. Such amount is already enough to strengthen my capabilities beyond that of any sleeper but also burdens my soul.
Finally reaching the other side of the room, I walked through another door placed right next to the kitchen.
Keeping walking down the hallway, the havoc did not cease. The entire school seemed to be in total chaos. Leaving the trails of Lyney in ruins and full of obstacles.
Blocking my path, stood Kadey. It seems like the unsuppressed anger reached him as well.
I cannot hurt him otherwise Valor will be after me as well, so I'll just have to get through him.
Without any moment of delay, the frenzied legacy charged at me at his full speed with a Sai crafted from a silver metal in his hand.
being the amateur swordsman I am, I could not stand a chance against a real legacy. Thankfully, this legacy lost all rational thought, leaving me with the advantage.
Following the basic instructions I learned in my class, I pushed the hand Kady held the knife with out of the way and brought my hand forward for a push.
However, after absorbing Regret Spirits my physique increased dramatically and made Kadey fly far back on his back with the knife thrown on the wall, leaving him unconscious.
Not lingering any longer on the pitiful legacy on the floor, I kept following the Regret Spirit.
Eventually, the Regret Spirit stopped before a bulky door, one made of hardened alloy with two people standing in front of it.
'The twins of Valor.'
Indeed, these were the twins of Valor, standing and guarding the door. Both looked sane and as frightening as ever.
