Chapter 56 - Experiment gone wrong

As time passed, more cracks began to appear all around us, and more chains emerged that tied themselves around the demon kneeling before us. From the many cracks in that white space, I could catch a glimpse of the eye of a greater demon, staring at us.

What is this? Where is this place? If this is the domain of this demon, what is that demon doing outside? 2 demons?

We were in the palm of the second demon, and with each passive second, the domain of the second was growing weaker. I could see the demonic energy slowly leaking out of the angel-like figure being transported by the chain to whatever was outside our cage.

How can I get out of this crazy place?

"Please! Take me with you! I don't want to die!" He begged me on the verge of tears.

"Unfortunately, I can't do that." I responded.

"Why not?" He asked.

You're not a weapon I desire, as simple as that. You're a rogue demon, born out of a garbage relic. I can't possibly hand my body to you; you're not even worth my pinky finger.

"Please!" The creature kept imploring me as the space around us was slowly crumbling to pieces.

"At this rate we'll both die." He reminded me.

"Why me? Why didn't you ask my cousin? He is much stronger than me. You were fighting with him up until you spat him out." I asked him.

"He—" More chains wrapped around his neck and began strangling him.

"Escaped!" was all he managed to let out.

Haaa! You see, this is why I should've asked to get my father to allow me to access the demonic weapons the uncle prepared for me; that way I wouldn't be forced into this position. Now, where can I seal this demon?

I knew from the countless times Leo explained it to me that absorbing a demon entails a sacrifice, as they use their body and powers to replace one of my body parts. In the case of my father, he had sacrificed his heart, some of his fingers, arms, legs, and organs, and when using those powers, you can't have access to the body parts they replace.

Something useless could've easily been my hair, maybe some of my organs, or some of my bone. I needed anything small that didn't particularly impair me.

A kidney… no, that's too important. I can't give it my liver nor my bones. What was I even thinking there? An eye? No, no, no, no. I should probably give it one of my ears or my tongue, but that's also quite a big sacrifice to make.

As the white bubble around us kept growing weaker, I was forced to make a quick decision. I hastily chose the pinky finger on my left hand.

As soon as I extended the finger towards the demon, I heard the sound of the metal chain breaking apart. The demon desperately lunged at me, grabbing the finger, and immediately began merging with it.

Wait a second, if I absorb you, and you're the one holding up the barrier, what will happen to me once the barrier is gone? You piece of shit, don't tell me…

A burning sensation spread around from the finger across all of my body; it felt as if I was completely covered in flames.

As the barrier shattered, I saw a glimpse of the demon responsible for all of the sudden chaos; it was a large, towering dragon with a long body that stretched as far as the eye could see. Its dark scales were shining brighter than ever; it had a golden belly and incredibly large and complex horns.

I was standing powerlessly in his grasp, but before he could crush me, his body also slowly began to get absorbed within my pinky finger.

Lightning was being emitted by his body, but none of them had an effect on me. Once everything was done, I found myself standing on my knees in the uncle's garden; the others were taking breaths of relief as the situation had finally defused.

Finally—

I felt my body being torn apart by shocks; electric shocks made my body spasm out of control as I was grunting, trying to bear the pain.

Aren't I supposed to be immune to pain? What's going on?

The source of that pain was the pinky finger, the one I gave to that demon. Golden markings were emerging from it; a golden ink was leaking from beneath the finger to the ground. Those marks were spreading to the rest of my body rapidly.

"Lucy!" Ilay immediately rushed to my side, and so did Leo, worried sick about what might happen to me.

"Endure it for now; I'll bring you to the uncle. He'll find a way to fix you; I'm sure he can." He said as he picked me up.

Endure, endure, endure, endure, endure! How am I fucking supposed to endure this?

The pain had become so unbearable that in an act of desperation I put the finger in my mouth and bit it off and spat it away. Once it touched the ground, the finger turned to dust, and a new one grew in its place; however, it stopped acting up.

Holy shit, I can't believe that worked… What the hell?

Then I collapsed on the ground; my body had exhausted every last bit of energy. But at the very least I was glad to have gotten away from that situation alive.

I woke up in my bed; my father and mother were standing beside me. At first I couldn't see well, but once my sight returned to normal, I could clearly see how upset they were. The worried phase was long gone, and now all that remained was frustration and disappointment.

Fuck.

"Before you say anything… I won't stop going to the uncle's—" Before I could finish the sentence, I was slapped across the face by my mother; her hand moved so fast I couldn't even see it coming.

"Ouch!"

It hurt. Why did it hurt?

I pinched my skin but couldn't feel a thing.

What the hell?

"There's more where that came from if you say something as dumb as that!" She warned.

So what am I supposed to do here? We took the necessary precaution steps; we had Ilay, Leo, the bodyguard you handed to me, and the bodyguards of Uncle's family. We did it by the rule? What am I supposed to do here? Apologize? Never!

My father then exhaled for a long time to break the silence but failed to say anything, so once I got up, I left the room, leaving those two standing like idiots in front of that empty bed.

"Lucifer!" My mother's voice echoed throughout the house.

"I'll be more careful next time; are you happy now? Leave me alone!" I shouted back as I got out of the main gate.

One quick look at my left hand revealed nothing unusual. One thing that seemed to bother me was how I couldn't even feel my left pinky, and it seemed to move slower than I wanted; it was especially evident when I opened and closed my hand repeatedly.

I only needed a glance to know all of the ability that demon bestowed upon me. It had three stages of transformation, with each stage having a couple of skills; all three stages allowed me to fly.

The first one had the ability to create floating weapons made out of a strange glowing material and the ability to conjure lightning.

The second stage allowed me to create a beam of light that would make plants burst out of an enemy's wounds as well as push them back and the ability to nullify the effects of demonic weapons that came in contact with my blood. This stage would also retain the ability to create the floating weapons.

The third stage instead allowed me to remotely control any and all demonic artifacts I created, as well as control the people who wielded them, turning them into demons momentarily, and the ability to create weapons out of my scales.

This seems…

It was the first time I could feel so clearly the power coursing through my veins.

So this is what he meant by that? It's real; when you acquire a power, you immediately know all about it… So why is Colorful Madness the only exception? Is it because it has a name? Will I forget everything about this ability if I give it a name? No, probably not.
