'What the hell?'
'No way… What just happened?'
'Did he just one-shot a zombie?'
'Wait… hold on… hold on…'
Li Cheng's mind was in chaos.
'I must've seen that wrong… Yeah, that's it. I must've seen it wrong.'
He forced out a dry chuckle.
'There's no way a zombie could be one-shotted. It must've been the last hit that finished it off. Yeah… yeah, that's right, it was just the final strike.'
After repeatedly convincing himself, Li Cheng looked back up at Lin Fan.
And then—he saw Lin Fan wielding an iron sword, effortlessly cutting through enemies like slicing vegetables.
His movements were swift, his footwork agile, weaving through hundreds of monsters. Every creature that crossed his blade was instantly slain.
At this moment, Li Cheng was completely dumbfounded.
'Holy shit— Is Lin Fan even human? One-shotting zombies like it's nothing?'
He swallowed hard, unable to believe his eyes.
He had been hoping that the dangers of the Nine-Story Monster Tower would be enough to get rid of Lin Fan. But instead, Lin Fan was massacring every monster in sight?
From the looks of it, Lin Fan had easily killed not just hundreds, but likely thousands of monsters already.
Li Cheng shifted his attention back to Lin Fan and noticed something else—Lin Fan wasn't just slaughtering small monsters.
He was also fighting a massive python.
The snake constantly tangled with him, while the surrounding monsters showed no signs of letting up.
Despite his incredible speed, Lin Fan barely had a chance to land a hit on the Serpent Lady. He was stuck dodging her attacks while simultaneously cutting down smaller monsters.
Li Cheng's eyes lit up.
"That monster must be this floor's boss, right?" he said calmly.
The man in glasses adjusted his glasses and quickly checked the world chat logs.
"That's correct. It's called the Serpent Lady—this floor's boss. But for some reason, she's only targeting Lin Fan and no one else."
"Didn't they say Lin Fan was luring monsters?" Li Cheng chuckled. "Seems like this is his own doing, then."
"That… does appear to be the case."
Hearing this, Li Cheng smirked.
"Lin Fan is clearly at a disadvantage now. There's no way he can handle so many monsters while also dealing with the Serpent Lady."
His eyes gleamed with malicious intent.
Under the combined assault of countless monsters and a floor boss, even if Lin Fan could one-shot every small enemy, he couldn't possibly last forever.
After all, there's no way he could one-shot a boss too, right?
"Let's go help," Li Cheng suddenly said, glancing at the man in glasses.
Hearing this, the man was stunned.
"Help? Help who? Lin Fan?" He looked confused.
Given Lin Fan's personality, even if they did help him now, there was no guarantee he'd be willing to join the research division later.
Li Cheng rolled his eyes and sneered.
"Of course not. We're going to help the Serpent Lady."
As soon as he finished speaking, he vanished.
The man in glasses hesitated for a moment before hurriedly following.
At that moment, Lin Fan was still locked in combat with the Serpent Lady.
Unlike ordinary zombies and skeletons, she had intelligence.
Every time Lin Fan got too close, she'd find a way to coil around him, preventing him from closing the gap.
However, she couldn't land a hit on him either.
Lin Fan's speed was astonishing—every time she struck, he narrowly dodged.
The two remained locked in this back-and-forth exchange, while Lilian stood nearby, clearing out smaller monsters.
The battle was exhausting, but Lin Fan was gradually adapting.
Still, this deadlock couldn't continue forever. He needed to find the Serpent Lady's weakness and end this fight.
Just as he was deep in thought, he failed to notice—
A shadow creeping up behind him.
Li Cheng was right behind him now.
Lin Fan was wary of the surrounding monsters—
But he wasn't watching out for the humans around him.
And so, he didn't realize—he was now in danger.
This also gave Li Cheng an opportunity to act.
Standing behind Lin Fan, he quietly raised his bow and arrow, aiming at Lin Fan's head.
At the same time, Lin Fan was dodging a sweeping attack from the Serpent Lady and was completely unaware of Li Cheng's actions.
Lilian, too, was preoccupied with the monsters entangling her, unable to pay attention to anything else.
Li Cheng sneered coldly as he stared at Lin Fan.
"Humiliate me? Let's see how you fight me now!" His gaze was filled with malice, causing the man in glasses standing nearby to shiver.
"Director Li... isn't this a bit inappropriate? You're trying to kill Lin Fan?"
"Even though Lin Fan's reputation is in shambles right now, he still has a lot of people defending him. If you kill him, you'll never be able to make a place for yourself in this world again," the man in glasses tried to stop Li Cheng's reckless behavior.
But Li Cheng wouldn't listen to anything the man in glasses said.
"The Nine-Story Monster Tower is so dangerous; what's so strange if Lin Fan dies inside? By then, we'll just say he was killed by the monsters—very convincing." Li Cheng sneered, his eyes full of determination.
"But—" The man in glasses wanted to keep persuading him, but the arrow in Li Cheng's hand had already been released.
At this point, it was too late for the man in glasses to intervene.
The arrow flew straight toward Lin Fan, who was in the middle of fighting monsters and surrounded by over a dozen zombies.
The moment the arrow left the bow, Lin Fan sensed it, but it was already too late to dodge.
Damn it!
He gritted his teeth in frustration at his own helplessness.
At that moment, the Serpent Lady also noticed this opening. With a hiss, it roared and swiftly crawled toward Lin Fan.
Its black hair swayed as it opened its sharp fangs, aiming for Lin Fan's neck, leaving him no room to escape.
Surrounded by over a dozen zombies, faced with the Serpent Lady's attack, and the arrow from behind, Lin Fan had to choose one to endure!
Lin Fan lifted his foot to dodge the Serpent Lady's attack first, then grabbed his iron sword and killed several zombies around him.
But there was no avoiding the arrow from behind—it pierced straight through his chest.
Blood spattered from the wound, and Lilian, who was nearby fighting monsters, suddenly felt a sharp pain in her heart.
She glanced in Lin Fan's direction, and tears immediately streamed down her face.
Once a full-time maid forms a contract with her master, their hearts become one, and the deeper the bond, the stronger the connection.
That's why, when Lin Fan was hit by the arrow, Lilian couldn't help but cry.
Holding her longsword, her eyes turned blood-red.
"Master..." Lilian muttered, her mind seemingly in a daze. She felt as though something was forming between them.
Clutching her iron sword, Lilian let out a roar and locked her gaze onto Li Cheng.
"You— how dare you!" Like a madwoman, she charged straight at Li Cheng with her iron sword, her golden hair flying wildly around her ears.
"Anyone who harm Master shall die!"
