Chapter 144 - Ridiculously Lucky

Three months had passed like a breeze, each day dragging a little more than the last. Still no sign of Artemis. No signs, not even in Megan's dreams. And it was starting to eat her up no matter how she tried not to let it get to her, the silence was beginning to wear Megan down.

Orion noticed — of course he did. His eyes are always following Megan.

At first, she'd tried to hide it, bury her worries under laughter and idle chatter, but he saw through it like light through clear water. Her smiles were stretched thin, her eyes distant as if searching the horizon for something — or someone, that refused to appear.

Eventually, she'd told him the truth. The full truth.

They were sitting on an old mossy log just outside the treeline, the hush of the forest around them. She stared at the ground for a long moment before finally speaking, her voice barely above a whisper, like saying it out loud might change something.

"My sister… Artemis… she's a goddess."
