Chapter 309 - CHAPTER 309

Uchiha Sacrifice Is Necessary

"Shisui, the self you imagined died long ago. It's time to return to reality."

Hearing these words, Shisui was stunned. He collapsed to the ground, his expression clouded with confusion.

Days ago, when he lost his Mangekyō Sharingan, he had sensed that something was wrong but had deliberately ignored his instincts, refusing to acknowledge the truth.

Even when Naruto confronted him, he resisted accepting reality. It takes courage to face the truth, and he did not want to return to the past.

Looking at the once-proud Uchiha now shrouded in despair, Naruto sighed. Leaving a shadow clone behind to observe him, he walked out of the underground base.

Shisui needed time to process everything, and Naruto intended to use this time to adapt to Kotoamatsukami, the ultimate genjutsu of Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan.

As he walked through the dense forest, Naruto mulled over Shisui's fate.

If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, it would have been difficult to believe that the legendary Uchiha Shisui—who had chosen to die for peace rather than betray his clan—had been nothing more than an idealized version of himself.

The real Shisui, however, had made a ruthless decision: to rewrite his own will and entrust the future to another.

The Cost of Power

Deep in an untamed valley infested with wild beasts, Naruto prepared himself. He needed to fully master the power of Kotoamatsukami.

Activating the Sharingan, he focused on refining his visual prowess—enhancing dynamic perception, insight, and genjutsu. Eventually, an idea struck him: Susanoo.

But despite possessing a Mangekyō Sharingan, he had not unlocked the technique.

Naruto clicked his tongue in disappointment. Susanoo's power aside, what man doesn't dream of piloting his own "Gundam" in battle?

Setting aside his frustration, he continued training. With each passing hour, his control over the Sharingan grew sharper—not only could he track moving targets with precision, but his shurikenjutsu had improved significantly.

Whoosh!

Kunai left Naruto's fingertips in rapid succession, ricocheting off surfaces before striking hidden targets at impossible angles. Bullseye.

"This eye was a great find… as long as I don't treat it like a normal Mangekyō Sharingan."

Sweat dripped down his face as he took a break in a nearby stream, letting the cool water soothe his exhausted body.

The Sharingan was formidable, but in terms of raw power and versatility, it still paled in comparison to the Nine-Tails. Kurama offered him near-limitless chakra, enhanced regeneration, and three powerful transformation states.

Drying himself with Wind Release, Naruto dressed and headed toward the nearest town.

His transplanted Sharingan remained permanently active—it couldn't be deactivated like a normal Uchiha's. He couldn't risk an eyepatch or a transformation jutsu, so he relied on colored contact lenses to conceal it.

Would the Third Hokage notice? Unlikely. Hiruzen had long since stopped paying close attention to him.

Danzo's Calculations

Meanwhile, deep within Konoha's underground Root facility, Danzo Shimura lay on an operating table.

Unlike Naruto, who had the Uzumaki clan's resilience and Asura's chakra, Danzo was cautious when it came to transplanting Uchiha eyes. At his age, any miscalculation could mean death.

Medical-nin worked carefully, while Root guards stood outside, ensuring the procedure remained undisturbed.

Even so, complications arose. The transplant was arduous, and Danzo's body reacted violently to the new Sharingan.

When the procedure was finally successful, he grimaced, suppressing a wave of discomfort.

I'm not as young as I once was… but if this power helps me bring Konoha to its rightful glory, the risk is worth it.

Eager to test his new eye, Danzo ordered experiments on captive test subjects.

However, he soon encountered an unexpected obstacle—Kotoamatsukami had entered its infamous ten-year cooldown.

Danzo's expression darkened. When had this eye been used? And on whom?

Had Shisui cast it on Uchiha Fugaku? The Hokage? His advisors? Or had he wasted it on a mere battlefield enemy?

Suppressing his frustration, he turned to the lead scientist.

"The rejection phase is over. When can I proceed with the Wood Release transplant?"

The researcher hesitated before replying.

"Danzo-sama, the First Hokage's cells are too dominant. Based on our data, the failure rate of your Wood Release transplant exceeds 70%."

"Unless you obtain another Mangekyō Sharingan, I strongly advise against proceeding."

Danzo fell silent.

A complete set of Mangekyō eyes would grant him both Uchiha and Senju power, surpassing even the Second Hokage, his revered master. But acquiring another Mangekyō was no simple feat.

Shisui had escaped.

And as for the other Kotoamatsukami eye… it was likely in the possession of Uchiha Itachi.

Itachi, his subordinate, was weaker than Shisui—but far more dangerous.

Danzo's fingers tightened into a fist.

"Is there any way to improve the success rate?"

The researcher skimmed through his notes before answering.

"The Mangekyō Sharingan is a Yin-based power. By transplanting multiple Sharingan, we can balance out the excess Yang energy from the First Hokage's cells. However…"

He hesitated before continuing.

"…our Sharingan stock is limited. Conducting further experiments would require additional Uchiha donors."

Danzo's gaze sharpened.

Finding the right surgeon was one thing—Orochimaru was an obvious candidate. But finding more Sharingan?

That, too, had a solution.

After all, the Uchiha clan still existed within Konoha.

They were always defiant, always plotting. Their meetings were filled with whispers of rebellion.

If Konoha were to rise again, sacrifices had to be made. The Uchiha would understand that—sooner or later.

Danzo allowed himself a small, satisfied smirk.

With Senju and Uchiha's power combined, he would become the strongest shinobi since the village's founding.

And in the end, even the Uchiha would bask in his victory.

Shadows of the Akatsuki

Somewhere in the Land of Fire, a swirling vortex of chakra distorted the air.

Obito Uchiha emerged from Kamui, landing beside a carriage speeding down a remote road.

Without hesitation, he cut down the Fire Daimyo's official inside. The guards barely had time to react before White Zetsu took over, erasing all traces of the crime.

Obito watched the blood pool beneath the fallen men, his masked expression unreadable.

Another bounty mission. Another meaningless task for Nagato's cause.

His thoughts were interrupted by an incoming message. His eye narrowed as he processed the simple but chilling words:

"Shisui Uchiha has disappeared. According to Uchiha intelligence, he was killed by Uchiha Itachi."
