Chapter 4 - 4

Mawile (Shiny)

Gender: Female

Type: Steel / Fairy (Hidden)

Ability: Sheer Force

Aptitude: Champion-Level

Level: 15

Moves: Growl, Astonish, Baton Pass, Bite, Iron Head

Egg Moves: Sucker Punch, Thunder Fang, Ice Fan

Almost as soon as he saw her, Hikaru Mori approached the adorable Mawile behind the rock with a gentle smile, carefully offering her some food. He was cautious not to startle the timid Pokémon.

"Hey there, little one. Are you hungry?"

Seeing that this human wasn't like others—who always chased her off—Mawile hesitated. But the fragrant food was too tempting. She carefully tested the human's intent, then, realizing he meant no harm, took the food in both hands and began to eat with gusto.

She was clearly starving.

Mawile has two mouths. The massive jaw-like horn on the back of her head can crush boulders and is used in battle—or to eat tough, tasteless food when desperate. Her smaller front mouth, under her adorable face, is used for tasting and lighter food.

Mawile is undeniably cute. It's said she lures opponents with her charm before turning her head to Bite them—hence the name "Mawile."

Ordinary Mawile have yellow bodies with black horns, hands, and feet. But this one's massive jaw, hands, and feet were a dark crimson, giving off an ominous gleam.

A Shiny.

To humans, a Shiny Pokémon is a rare treasure. But to wild Pokémon, it's an anomaly—often shunned by their kind.

No wonder such a talented Pokémon was starving alone.

As the little one devoured the food, Hikaru gently stroked her head.

At first, she flinched from the touch, unfamiliar with such gentle treatment. But she quickly warmed up, nuzzling his hand in delight.

This was Mawile!

Although she had no evolutionary line, her unique Steel + Fairy typing gave her two immunities and eight resistances. She even had a 4x resistance to Bug. Her only true weaknesses were Fire and Ground—an incredible defensive combo.

While Fairy-type Pokémon were still considered rare due to Xerneas's slumber, that didn't make Mawile any less powerful.

Steel + Fairy types are often regarded as the League's "favorite daughters." Besides Klefki, the others in this category are Magearna, Zacian, and the Tinkaton line—half of them are Legendary Pokémon.

Though Mawile's base stats aren't impressive (none over 100), her Mega Evolution gives her the Huge Power ability, which doubles her physical attack. That gives her an estimated base attack over 210—surpassing even Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Heracross.

She's the true champion of the common people.

As long as she avoids Abilities like Mummy or Wandering Spirit, which can nullify her power, or moves that swap Abilities, she can destroy anything in her path.

Mega Mawile also has 125 base Defense and 95 Special Defense. Aside from her lower Speed, she has no major flaws. But with moves like Taunt and Sucker Punch, even that weakness is manageable.

Only Mawile, Sableye, and Beedrill have Mega Evolutions with under 500 total base stats—but all three are terrifying when used correctly.

And this Mawile had Champion-Level aptitude, three rare Egg Moves (Sucker Punch, Thunder Fang, Ice Fang), and the hidden ability Sheer Force. With a Life Orb, she could bypass recoil and deal 30% more damage—without downside.

Honestly, Hikaru never imagined he'd encounter such an incredible Pokémon here. There probably wasn't a better one in all of Granite Cave.

Once Mawile had eaten her fill, Hikaru pulled out a box of high-quality Steel-type Energy Cubes and offered them.

Mawile happily munched away. The glow in her eyes told him she could sense the benefits of the cubes.

When she finished eating, Hikaru exchanged for a black-and-gold Luxury Ball from the system and placed it gently in front of her.

"Would you like to become my partner? I'll raise you to be the strongest Pokémon in the world."

Before he could offer more treats, Mawile nodded enthusiastically. She tapped the Luxury Ball's switch with her tiny hand and entered it on her own.

The Luxury Ball didn't even wobble—it confirmed the capture instantly.

Hikaru stood there, stunned. Then, he raised the ball triumphantly and shouted:

"Pokémon, get dazed!"

But… there was no one around to hear him. The wild Pokémon were too busy enjoying the food he'd brought. His sudden cheer looked more than a little silly.

Some Pokémon gave him strange looks.

Catching a rare shiny? Okay.

Striking a weird pose and yelling like a weirdo?

This Trainer might have a screw loose.

But… the food was good. They could tolerate the weirdness.

Looking a bit embarrassed, Hikaru released Mawile. She looked up at him curiously, and he instinctively stroked her head again.

"Mawile, how did it feel inside the Luxury Ball?"

In the games, Luxury Balls don't help with capture rates, but they raise friendship much faster because the interior is incredibly comfortable.

While other Poké Balls focus on capture, Luxury Balls are designed for growth and bonding.

"Maw~"

It was Mawile's first time being caught, but she didn't feel confined. On the contrary, she seemed at ease inside the ball.

Relieved, Hikaru recalled her and clipped the Luxury Ball into the Pokémon slot on his belt.

Then, turning back to the group of wild Pokémon still munching happily, he smiled.

"Hey everyone, have any of you seen pretty stones or special ores? I'll trade more food and high-grade Energy Cubes for them!"

Since he was here, Hikaru figured he might as well collect some useful materials. Constantly exchanging Gold Nuggets at shops would raise suspicion.

At this stage, he needed to keep a low profile.

When they saw the Energy Cubes—something rarely found in the wild—some Pokémon perked up. A few immediately darted off to their dens, looking for treasures to trade.

Sure enough, they began returning with shiny stones and glittering gems.

After appraising them, Hikaru found that most were just attractive rocks. But a few were laced with Evolutionite fragments or raw gemstones.

Though Evolutionite fragments can't evolve Pokémon, they can be ground into supplements. League stores bought them at high prices.

One Geodude even brought out an Everstone. Delighted, Hikaru rewarded him with a high-grade Rock-type Energy Cube.

The happy little Geodude bounced around in excitement.
