"Don't be ridiculous," Wren scoffed.
Her gaze sharp as it landed on John. This man before her was nothing more than a pawn, a country bumpkin she'd contracted to secure her inheritance.
Their relationship was purely transactional. Wren paid him a hefty sum monthly to fuel his extravagant lifestyle, and he had been compliant until three months prior. That was when she'd discovered his infidelity, a discovery that had earned him a stinging slap.
"I made it clear before we signed the contract, John," she'd reminded him icily. "You can do whatever you want, as long as you don't get caught. Your indiscretions reflect on me. My profile must remain impeccable. Don't you dare tarnish it. Now, what have you done this time?"
John's face contorted with rage. "What about my needs as a man, Wren? I can't even touch you! What was I supposed to do?"
