Chapter 103: Searching for Mythology

"And that concludes the entire incident."

At the global secret summit, Britain disclosed the truth to the other major powers.

"I see... I never expected something of this scale to happen."

All the nations were shocked. They had initially wondered why Britain had launched a nuclear missile onto its own territory—its capital, no less. Now, they finally understood: by the time the missile was fired, there was nothing left there except monsters.

Yet, the creature that endured a nuclear strike emerged completely unharmed and even went sightseeing, sending chills down their spines.

Among the documents presented, there was a photo of Chang Wei, marked with bold red warning text, along with a preliminary profile. However, the accuracy of the report was questionable—after all, Britain had fallen. All intelligence agencies had lost contact at that point, and even if Integra and her people had wanted to relay information, they wouldn't have been able to.

After London was obliterated, the British queen had wanted to launch a nuclear strike immediately. However, the order was delayed until the moment Chang Wei and his group were preparing to leave, which spoke volumes about how difficult command and communication had become by then.

A Vatican representative was also present. Unlike in the real world, where the Holy See was merely the sovereign of a small city-state, in this world, the Vatican wielded significant influence—second only to five other unnamed superpowers.

They confirmed that Father Anderson had used a holy relic in battle, yet he still wasn't a match for Chang Wei.

Since the Vatican had maintained communication longer than others, their intelligence was at least 50% complete. However, after Section XIII was completely wiped out, no further information was obtained.

Meanwhile, photographs of Seras and the Werewolf Captain were also displayed.

Seras had been identified as one of Chang Wei's descendants.

As for Chang Wei himself—his identity and the nature of the creature he had become—everyone turned their eyes toward the representatives of Yan Dynasty.

The problem was that even the people of Yan were baffled. Their mythology was vast, filled with countless legendary creatures. Who could say for sure what Chang Wei really was?

Setting aside everything else, just the beasts recorded in the Shan Hai Jing—or rather, its extensive "menu"—were already overwhelming. Then there were the four major categories of demons, ghosts, and monsters, as well as divine, spiritual, and celestial beasts. It was even possible that he originated from some obscure Chu-era mythology.

"We have no way to confirm."

The Yan representative responded calmly. Identifying supernatural beings from foreign mythologies was easy; the most classic cases were vampires and werewolves, whose characteristics were obvious.

"However, we will search for his identity and background."

Failing to find any records of Chang Wei was unsurprising. Who knew how many years this ancient monster had lived? He might have existed since that time, making the lack of personal records completely understandable.

Such were the troubles of a vast land with a rich history and an abundance of extraordinary figures.

Chang Wei paid no mind to their discussion. He didn't care about the countless eyes monitoring him, nor did he react to the worldwide alarm he had caused. Accompanied by Seras and the Werewolf Captain, he continued traveling—not for leisure, but to see if he could uncover remnants of other mythologies.

Of course, he wasn't aimlessly sightseeing. A man as purposeful as Chang Wei would never waste time on something so meaningless.

His reasoning was simple: monotheistic faiths were not to be trifled with, but perhaps the remnants of fading mythologies still held valuable relics for him.

To his great disappointment, however, neither Norse nor Greek nor Celtic mythology seemed to have left anything behind. The so-called fragments of King Arthur's armor and Merlin's staff he found were devoid of any mystical power.

He even ventured to the supposed location of Mount Olympus, only to find it utterly barren. Perhaps it existed in a different dimensional space.

Chang Wei had also wanted to visit the Yan Dynasty of this world, but he was stopped at customs—he had no identity or passport.

Not wanting to stir up trouble, he let it go. If he didn't dare provoke the monotheistic religions, he certainly wouldn't dare to provoke the Yan Dynasty either.

"I'll be leaving soon. You two take care of yourselves."

One day, Chang Wei suddenly spoke to Seras and the Werewolf Captain.

Werewolf Captain: Σ(O_O)

Seras: ━Σ(Д|||)━

"Master, where are you going?"

Seras initially thought he was just stepping out for a bit.

"I'm going somewhere far, far away. I don't know when I'll return. It could be an instant, a year, or even a hundred years—or longer."

Chang Wei explained. He had never revisited the worlds he had previously been to, so he had no idea how time flowed between different dimensions. Was it faster over there? Or did every world operate on its own timeline?

It was at this moment that Seras and the Werewolf Captain finally grasped what he meant.

"Master… are you abandoning me?"

Seras wasn't technically homeless—at the very least, she was a stateless person now. The Werewolf Captain was in a similar predicament.

"That's right. You're too weak."

Chang Wei nodded.

The Werewolf Captain stared at him.

"What are you looking at? I'm saying it plainly: all of you here are trash."

The Werewolf Captain hesitated. He wanted to argue that he was strong—but compared to Chang Wei, he really wasn't. Chang Wei had strolled through a nuclear explosion unscathed. Without Chang Wei's protection, he would have been reduced to nothing but ashes.

So... was he not strong enough to be of help to Chang Wei?

He didn't know what Chang Wei intended to do, and having never been apart from him for so many years, the sudden separation made him uneasy.

"You've grown up. It's time to find someone, settle down, and start a family."

Chang Wei, hearing his thoughts, spoke with a smirk.

The Werewolf Captain gazed at him.

"Will you… come back?"

He finally asked.

"Not necessarily."

Chang Wei hesitated before answering truthfully. He didn't want to make empty promises, only to forget them and have people come looking for him decades later.

A person who did that would be nothing but a scumbag—a heartless bastard.

Chang Wei had no intention of being that kind of person, so he refused to give Seras or the Werewolf Captain any false hope.

Who knew? Maybe he'd become so powerful that he'd no longer care about such trivial matters.

With the boundless multiverse before him, such things were perfectly normal. It wasn't a big deal.

The Werewolf Captain fell silent.

"I can't take you with me."

Chang Wei shook his head. He was used to traveling alone. Unless he encountered the women he truly cared about, he couldn't guarantee he'd take responsibility for others.

He had briefly considered undoing the memory modifications he had placed on the Werewolf Captain, but ultimately abandoned the idea. If he restored his memories, the Captain might choose to either take his own life or attack Chang Wei—forcing him to kill him.

It was better to let him live on with these pleasant memories. With someone as simple-minded as Seras around, maybe the Werewolf Captain would eventually become a sarcastic comic relief character.

"Well then… farewell."
