— We usually communicate using old radio signals, camouflaged in codes. — Reed explained as he strode along, his red hair sticking to his sweaty forehead while his amber eyes scanned the surroundings, alert to any threat. — They confiscated everything we had when they arrested us, so we don't have our communicators now. But we can try to contact the members of A.L.O. when we arrive.
— Of course! I've been using old solar-powered chargers to supply the batteries of some old-era technological devices I brought with me. I can recalibrate them to emit coded magnetic waves, too obsolete to attract the attention of E.G.O. That's brilliant! — Ethan suggested breathlessly as the group crossed an abandoned village on a mountainside. He and Reed seemed to have become quite close during the journey. — We should also communicate with other heirs who are lost out there, like Bianca and I were at first, and guide them to our base. No one from the outside will suspect anything!
— That would make things easier. — Hiroshi commented, wiping the dusty window of a small convenience store with his forearm and peering into its chaotic interior. — As one of the leaders of our rebel organization, the messages will have more credibility and spread faster.
— So, as one of the leaders of A.L.O., you must have a lot of contact with this Oracle, right? — Sete asked casually, but she had been insisting on this subject for days. Hiroshi was tired of explaining that he was not responsible for this matter, so he had never seen or spoken to the Oracle.
"You should stop insisting on this." — The System sighed helplessly; he would never get used to the insistent nature of the deities. — "The human already said he doesn't know anything."
"You don't tell me what to do." — Sete cut him off, but let the matter drop. Vez sighed again, silently accepting Spring's impetuosity.
Then, the young deity devoted herself to observing the ravaged surroundings of the place, filled with gray vegetation merging with the houses — because it was located in a remote area and was very small, the village was slowly being swallowed by the corrupted forest —, which was great for her.
The group was finally approaching the safe region to the east after almost a week of travel, where they could establish a base for the heirs and, of course, for the other Seasons. In the meantime, Vez assisted Sete as her [Agriculture] skill rose to lv. 3, and also warned her when a group of servants of the End was about to attack, but she still did not fully trust the System. After all, it was an ally of Order and Destiny, the gods who separated them and threw them into the mortal world.
So Spring approached a leafy, corrupted tree planted in a flower bed on the sidewalk, intending to climb it to get a better view of where they were going. That way, she could check the safety of the path ahead and avoid falling into any possible tricks or traps.
So she enveloped the plant with her green aura, purifying it and restoring the leaves to their previous bright green color. Meanwhile, Hiroshi and the others concentrated on looting the convenience store or standing guard outside, except for Agatha, who watched Sete use her powers with her brown irises shining. The young deity noticed her and smiled, which made the little girl blush and smile back.
Sete noticed that there was a sprout growing at the base of the tree trunk and had an idea: she accelerated its growth, turning it into a thick branch, which she climbed with the grace expected of a deity. Then, turning to Agatha, she said:
— Would you like to come with me? — She reached out her hand to the girl.
Agatha nodded excitedly, her braids swinging as she ran to Sete and held her hand, her little chest puffed out with excitement. When Spring controlled the branch to lift them up to the treetop, the child let out a smiling squeal and grabbed her waist, as if the mere presence of the young deity would protect her from any accident.
High above, they received the first reddish rays of the morning sun, which covered the world with warm light. The heat seeped through their clothes, tinging their skin with a pleasant glow.
The little girl partially released herself from Sete's embrace, extending her free arm upward, as if she wanted to reach the sun with her hands and caress the flames with her small fingers.
— Beautiful… — Agatha whispered with wide eyes, which made Sete smile.
— Yes… — She agreed, also whispering, with a warm smile spreading across her delicate face.
