Chapter 74 - A game of chess

Two years passed by in the blink of an eye and before anyone knew it most of the gods have been staying in the outer space since the beginning of the war. Taiyi and Feng Jiu had yet to join the war as the battle of the ancestral gods had yet to join the war. The battlefield was now littered with bodies of many immortals and high gods and even some celestial gods have already fallen. The battle that had started two years ago had yet to reach its peak and so far the gods and immortals of the heavenly realm were doing very well and they had ensured that there was no breach in the defenses which left the two sides at a stalement. At this moment the ancestral gods of the otherworldly invaders were in the middle of a meeting. Elliot was also present and was seated calmly on his throne." Lan Yu, how long has it been?" Elliot calmly asked ad he stared at one of the female ancestral gods who was dressed in a white armour. The ancestral god instantly bowed when she heard her name as she knew that so far Elliot was not pleased with her way of handling things." I have indeed failed your majesty as things did not go as expected. The enemy is much stronger than we expected and so far the commander on the other side is more cunning than I expected and the commander is also a ruthless figure so at most I can only call for a temporary truce so as to but time and prepare to wipe out the enemy at once when our elites have gathered," the female commander called Lan Yu reported. When Elliot heard the news he did not say anything and did not even open his eyes. There was a deafening moment of silence as no one dared to utter a word. They were all waiting for Elliot to speak and they did not wait for long." You have two years no more no less. If you can't bring back the commander's head then make sure you cut off your own head as a trophy," Elliot said with a calm expression. Lan Yu trembled when she heard this and she secretly clenched her fists while swearing to kill that annoying commander." I will do my best," Lan Yu said. While the otherworldly invaders were having a meeting, the same was happening on the other side." Lord Bo, what is the latest report from the front lines?" The heavenly emperor asked. Taiyi did not make any comments and ever since he arrived he allowed the heavenly king to be the commander in chief of the army so he just secluded himself as his time to get involved had yet to arrive." So far we have lost a lot but the front line has remained an impregnable fortress that the enemy cannot break but I am afraid we won't be able to maintain the fortress as latest report shows that our enemy has grown impatient and have decided to speed up things a little bit so deputy commander Su Ya has been asking for reinforcements. What do we do?" Lord Bo asked. The heavenly king did not answer rather he stared at Taiyi who had hid eyes as if he was now part of the meeting." No reinforcements will be sent just tell her that if they fail to hold the front line then just like the old times. She should cut off her own head and if that is too difficult for her then she can plead for mercy with the head of the enemy's commander," Taiyi said in a relaxed and calm manner with his eyes closed. After he was done he left without saying another word." I have a game of chess to play so if you will excuse me," Taiyi said." Your majesty, the commander just happens to be your daughter, Tie Ling, who is incharge of leading the army," one god from the fire realm said. Ever since they arrived at the outer space Taiyi has been involved in a battle of chess with Elliot and very rarely do they leave their game unless they are required to attend the meeting but even then they just attended the meeting out of formality." So?" Taiyi asked in a cold tone. The god from the fire realm wisely closed his mouth as he did not want to incur any of Taiyi's wrath. Taiyi has not given up his emotionless dao rather he just evolved it so that it can be more accommodating to his other personalities so that he can feel again but that did not mean that he had given up completely on his emotionless dao. His emotionless dao was still apart of him but he always kept it shut as he wanted to enjoy some time alone with his wife and daughter before this final battle. Now that the battle had begun he decided to switch it on and to change his personality so that he can become emotionless again. In a war of such magnitude he could not allow his emotions to be active as he might end up making a lot of mistakes and that would cause the death of many people and probably the destruction of the whole world. If he had to choose between his daughter and the world then what would he choose? When it comes down to making such a choice then he had to remember that he was a leader and a father at the same time. As a leader he is the father of a whole world and many sons and daughters were dependant on him. Taiyi closed his eyes before he left the tent where the leaders were gathered. His daughter already knew the consequences of her actions when she decided to join the war and Taiyi had warned her of this but she wanted to be part of it. Taiyi left the tent and cleared his mind after which he appeared in an empty space. If one looked carefully one would see that this was a chaotic space that was collapsing but two powers kept it stable so that it would not collapse. No one could enter the empty space apart from Taiyi and Elliot as they were the ones that were using their powers to make sure that the space did not collapse. After Taiyi entered the space, Elliot also entered shortly after him with a calm expression. "Please," Taiyi said with a cold smile while indicating for Elliot to enter. Elliot did the same. If one were to stare at them one would think that the duo were friends who had known each other for a long time. No one would even think that the duo were enemies unless they studied the clash of different powers in the empty space. Although it seemed as if the duo had yet to begin fighting, they had already begun their fight. In the empty space, there was a chess board at the centre of the empty space and two figures sat side by side while playing the game. Many pawns had already fallen but the game was still ongoing. It even seemed as if the game was still in a stalement and no one seemed to be on the winning side. They were both at a disadvantage and no one was at an advantage. They did not seem to be bothered by any of this. If one were to closely observe the game, one would see that the chess pieces were not actually chess pieces but they were people.
