(Arata)
After the gut-wrenching call to his Ma, I began to pace the emergency waiting area. The police came for our statement and we told them everything we saw and remembered.
Soon Mom, Zaylen and Uncle Kail joined us and hugged me turn by turn.
"Arata! It will be fine." Mom kissed the top of my head, holding me tight. I simply nodded, finding solace in her warmth.
Baba discussed how everything had happened with Zaylen and Uncle Kail.
"They knew where we were and had come armed. If Karsten hadn't been fatally injured, I would have assumed he had planned it but this is someone else."
"Baba, he would never put my life in danger. Not like this. It's not his doing," I spoke up, separating from Mom.
"I know, Arata. I saw how he saved our lives. I am not doubting him now." Baba was going to soften towards him. He valued loyalty and now Karsten had demonstrated how important I was to him, more than his own life.
