Nikolai's Point Of View
For a few minutes, we finally managed to eat the damn cake in peace.
Morana sat perched on my lap still, her cheeks flushed, her hair a messy halo around her head, her lips swollen from all the kissing, and everything else. She forked bites of cake into her mouth with a slight pout, throwing me annoyed glances between bites like she was mad but also a little shy.
I watched her with a smirk tugging at my lips, completely fucking entranced.
God, she was gorgeous.
Once the last of the cake was gone, and she mock-threatened to stab me with the fork if I tried anything else while she ate, I finally set her down gently on her feet.
"Stay here," I said quietly, brushing a thumb over her lower lip to wipe off a smear of chocolate before stepping back.
I gathered the dirty plates and forks, took them to the kitchen, and started washing them.
The sound of water running and plates clinking was oddly grounding after the sheer insanity of the last half hour.
