Chapter 1: New Beginnings
In the vast blue sky with fluffy white islands, two dirt covered snow white doves flew.
They had been flying for months now, both were tired and about to fall from the sky at any given moment, and with the sea below them, how could they allow themselves to?!
Some might be wondering why these birds are flying long distances anyways? These peculiar species of doves aren't even migratory! Their reason is..
I don't know.
Maybe they want to see something that their home couldn't provide for them. Maybe they wish to fly so far simply because they love to do so. Maybe they wanted to fly so far that they left this world behind. No matter how many reasons you could think of, you'd never truly know why someone is doing something, unless they tell you.
Regardless of their reason, they knew if they continued to fly, they would fall.
The two had once been an entire flock of white doves, yet they all fell down one by one, making the two the last of them.
Yet they continued. These doves' reasons must be great!
The dove in front of the other wanted to look towards the stars, but it could barely do so.
This dove had tried continuously, until..
It had done it. The bird had looked towards the stars, but instead the dove had been met by a giant shining singular star, what was it that humans called it? The sun?
"Coo.." the dove sighed softly, it continued to look towards the sun in awe. Feeling its eyes were gaining bliss beyond imagination.
Just then, the dove had felt the agonizing pain in its already tired wings, it was about to fall. What could it do now?
The dove had looked towards the younger dove, now it was its own turn to fall alongside the rest of its family. It was sad that he was going to leave the little dove all alone. He was a shy dove, his brother and sisters even called this dove, the weakest dove.
Yet it had flown farther than all of them. But the older dove still had worried for the younger dove, how much longer could it fly? Sure land was near, but the small dove should be just as weak as it, or even weaker.
Sensing his elders' gaze, the young dove looked away from the sea and towards him. Just from a single glance it could tell.
Elder was going to fall. What could he do?
Watching and waiting was going to help at all!
"Coo!" The young dove straightened its head. Giving off a sense of pride to the elder dove. The little dove did what he knew, showboat. At least then the Elder would get some sense of hope if he did.
The elder dove remembered, this dove had been a strong one. The strongest of his race even! How could it fall in such a short distance, land was near.
It was going to reach…
The elder dove had fallen, slowly through the sky, crashing into the white fluffy islands. Till he could no longer be seen by the young dove.
The young dove had continued to fly, without stopping for even a moment. He must continue!
He knew that he would fall too.
But it was not going to go out without a fight! He must live! The little dove continued to fly, perhaps even faster than before. It was like the injury and tiredness had been driven away from this little dove.
As the little dove flew through the sky, it realized the sky was enormous, and relentless. The sky had killed so many of his brothers and sisters so that this much was obvious to him.
But he was enormous too, and even more relentless. But compared to the sky he was so little, but compared to the stars the sky was so little. Everything was enormous, and small all at the same time.
After some time the young bird had begun to descend, it felt the weight of its wings becoming heavier and heavier.
He had done it! The relentless little dove reached land.
The little bird changed his aim from the ground, and used the last bits of his strength to land on a windows ledging.
On the other side of the clear wall was a human. With skin that had seemed vampiric, her hair had seemed like it was more messy than any other, and clothes it wore was a simple white t-shirt and jeans. And On this human's face were many bruises and light brown eyes.
It had been looking towards the brave enormous bird, but he hadn't cared too much about it, he was too tired to. And immediately fell over to sleep.
"Did it just die?" Emma muttered quietly in her heart. Feeling sad for such a little fella.
She had been sitting on one of the many wooden desks in this nearly empty classroom. Emma had to serve detention time alongside four other girls, who had caused her to be in this mess in the first place!
Earlier in the day, Emma had taken enough of Luna's Bull, she had been messing with her for the entire school year! Mocking, stealing, and even beating her up! Emma was no longer going to take any more of this. She finally was going to stand up for herself!
And in just a few minutes.
She had been completely beaten down in front of a girl whose head was about to explode to red, she looked at Emma fiercely with her brown eyes. And her black swooshed around as she continued to beat her.
All Emma could think of was, why? Why had she tried? Why had watching Seth Godin's video made her think she was invincible?? Had Emma forgotten who Luna was?
Emma fell downwards on her chair in the detention room, Luna and her gang occasionally threw nasty looks at her. But that couldn't do anything to Emma. The teacher was there, watching these unruly students like a hawk.
Good thing Emma wasn't completely bored like those girls. She had a book, humanity's finest forms of entertainment.
The book she brought up to her desk was, "In search of Kushtaka: Alaska's other bigfoot The land Otter-man of the Tlingit Indians." This one had recently come out for Emma.
And with Emma being an avid fan of absolutely any myth or legend. How could she miss one that was from the state she lives in? Unbeknownst to Emma, she had been one of the first to ever even pick up the book.
As she read the look of those watching felt more and more intense, till they had gone. Emma felt relieved she couldn't even read correctly with those people watching like a cobra, the teacher was an exception though. She was watching them all.
After a while, the teacher had finally let only Emma out, although she had been the one to hit first. This had happened many times before she usually had been the one who had to stay extra because she either resisted Luna, or hadn't even fought back at all.
The school system is truly marvelous! Emma sneered on her way back home.
The city's gasoline smell filled her lungs, Emma felt this was refreshing. It was way better than the school. She continued her walk down the street, surprisingly she had only had to stop once throughout her entire way to her little comfy apartment downtown.
But Emma hadn't noticed the pair of giant flashing lights at all, continuing to think "Aren't I a lucky gem today, getting out of school early, and not even having to stop once while crossing the street!"
BANG!
The sound of Emma's head resounded in her, she had a trip! If she was an old person, that fall would have definitely killed! Emma looked at the damned object she had tripped on, it was a small metallic suitcase, it was so shiny that absolutely anyone couldn't have missed it, except for Emma.
"HONK, HONK!!" A giant white truck shouted at Emma.
Emma grabbed the metallic suitcase with ease and quickly got off the street. "Sorry!"
When she had reached the plain concrete sidewalk, Emma couldn't help but wonder, who would leave such a thing in the middle of the road?
Upon closer inspection, Emma noticed the metallic box had a tag on its handle that read "CHECK INSIDE THE WISHING BOX FOR MORE INFORMATION :) "
Emma opened the box quickly, she had been a bit curious and couldn't help herself but to look. Ever since she was child her mother and father had implanted the need to check the unknown in her. So, she had.
And all there was inside the black of metallic suitcase was a piece of paper.
Emma picked it up, now even more curious, it seemed like the mysteries never ended. The paper had childish handwriting, saying:
"HELLO!! WISHING STAR AT YOUR SERVICE!
THANK YOU FOR FINDING MY BAG FOR ME, IT WOULD BE VERY APPRECIATIVE IF YOU LEAVE IT IN A SUPER SPECIAL SECRET LOCATION.
BEFORE I SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT THOUGH, YOU GOT TO PINKY PROMISE THAT YOU WON'T EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER TELL ANYONE ABOUT THIS." A Failed attempt at drawing a shushing emoji was drawn on the paper.
Emma looked further down the wrinkling piece of paper.
"THE SECRET LOCATION IS AT A GOLD OR YELLOW (YOUR CHOICE, THE COLORS LOOK PRETTY SIMILAR) ROCK FILLED POND IN THE MOUNTAIN FOOTHOLD OF CHUGACH MOUNTAINS, THANK YOU!!"
Emma read the note in surprise; she had not at all expected such a thing to appear in front of her. Fate was a mysterious thing after all. Emma looked over the note one more time.
"Should I return it? Chugach is quite far from here, but it could be fun." Emma said in her heart while stroking her chin, she had subconsciously turned around the paper and more words in childish handwriting appeared.
"IF RETURNED A PRIZE OF WHATEVER YOU COULD POSSIBLE DESIRE WILL BE GRANTED. I SWEAR ON MY LIFE, MY MOTHERS, MYSELF, AND I!"
"I mean Chugach is far, but not too far." Emma said in her heart, a giant smirk growing on her face.
