Jonnah blinked, unsure if he had imagined it. But when he looked at Aurora again, she was staring straight at him, her expression unreadable.
"I said you can sit," she repeated, her tone still cool but not unkind.
Jonnah quickly sat down, careful not to seem too eager. He kept a small, polite smile on his face, even though his palms were sweating.
"Thank you," he said quietly, folding his hands in his lap. For a few seconds, he wasn't sure what else to say.
Aurora didn't speak either.
She was watching the crowd, her eyes flitting from Adam and Luna upstairs to the pot-bellied man, then back to Jonnah.
She knew that if she played this right, she could change everything.
"You know Owen?" she asked suddenly, her voice low and calm.
Jonnah looked surprised, then cautious. "I… work with him," he answered after a pause. "He's helping manage a few of my gigs."
"Do you trust him?"
Jonnah blinked. "That's a strange question."
