Once he was finished, he decided to check on his snakes. He went through the door in his quarters that opened into his office in Slytherin House and walked into the common room. His snakes were quietly talking, studying, or tutoring, or being tutored.
"It has been very quiet," the portrait of Salazar remarked.
"Good to hear," Severus replied. He decided to go back to his quarters and do some brewing.
James and Sirius were back at Potter Manor after their medical 'emergency'. "Pomfrey thought it was funny!" Sirius claimed outraged. "I swear I saw her mouth twitching when she was healing your bum, Prongs."
"She always did think Lily was nutters for marrying me and wanted to test her for a love potion," James revealed.
"No shit?" Sirius asked.
"So of course anything she does to me is fine with Pomfrey," he grumped. "Same goes for Snivellus. She was always railing on about our supposed bullying of him. She never could appreciate a good prank."
"Harry tried to bite me," Sirius complained. "Now he not only looks like Snivellus, but acts like him too!"
"I can't believe Albus is just going to sit there and let Snivellus turn Harry into the next dark lord!"
"It's Snivellus who really wants to be the next dark lord," Sirius pointed out. "Harry will just be his puppet and he'll be calling all the shots from behind the throne."
"True," James agreed. "And that will be really dangerous as Snivvy's Slytherin to his rotten core and he learned all he knows at You-Know-Who's knee."
"Well, you'd better prepare yourself, Prongs because in next wizarding war, you'll be fighting your son."
"He's no son of mine, Padfoot! I'm going to Gringotts tomorrow and disowning him."
"Well, you're going to need to remarry because if you don't have a heir when you pass through the veil, the Goblins will give the Potter estate to whatever heir they can find and they don't care if they're dark or light."
"You need to follow your own advice, Padfoot," James pointed out.
"But I'm not the heir; Prince Reggy is. You do remember that's why we couldn't use Grimmauld Place as the Order's headquarters because he works hand-in-glove with You-Know-Who?"
"Yeah, I recall that now that you mention it, the little prick!"
Severus was jarred awake by pounding on his door. He did a Tempus and saw it was nearly one in the morning. He threw on his robe, found his slippers and went to the door. Over the door it read Minerva McGonagall.
Severus opened the door. "Minerva, what has happened?"
"There's been another attack, but this time a student has been petrified. Come with me."
Severus followed Minerva up to the hospital wing and saw Dumbledore, Filius, and Pomona surrounding a bed. He saw that the petrified student was none other than Colin Creevey. He had his arms up and was holding a camera in front of his face.
"I wonder if he got a picture of his attacker," Dumbledore said, reaching towards the camera only to be stopped by Severus. "If you open the camera the film will be exposed so if he did get a picture of his attacker; it will be ruined."
"What do you suggest we do, Severus?" Filius asked.
"If we can get the camera away from him then I can take it into Muggle London and have the film developed," Severus replied.
"Are any of your Slytherins out of bed or missing, Professor?" Albus asked.
"No, they are not Headmaster," Severus replied.
"Did you check?"
"I do not need to as I have an alarm in my quarters that goes off if anyone leaves after the last curfew and it did not sound."
"Unless they stayed hidden somewhere and never went back to Slytherin," Dumbledore said.
Severus rolled his eyes. "As for your next question …yes, Mr. Flint was in Slytherin House and no, he did not leave after the sixth year curfew of eleven o'clock."
"You don't need to be so testy Professor," Albus complained.
Severus remained silent. Nothing he could say would convince the old barnacle it was not a member of his house so there was no point in wasting the energy, arguing with him.
Pomona and Minerva worked for several minutes to carefully get the camera loose from Colin's petrified hands without damaging his fingers or the camera. Minerva handed the camera to Severus.
"Filius, I want you to go with Professor Snape and make sure none of the photos accidentally disappear," Albus requested.
Severus snorted loudly at Dumbledore's comment. "You are welcome to join me, Filius. Perhaps we can make time to visit my favorite Chinese restaurant also."
"I've never eaten Chinese before so I welcome your invitation, Severus," the little professor replied genially.
"In the meantime, I think we should all warn our houses to make sure they are back in their houses before curfew and I also think we need to verify that all members are present so we can be sure there is nobody wandering the halls after hours or locked out because they could not remember their password. We also need to be extra vigilant when we are patrolling," Severus said.
"I don't want everybody riled up. It will just make it harder to catch the person whose doing it," Albus stated glancing at Severus out of the corner of his eyes.
Severus sneered at him. "And of course since you believe a Slytherin is doing it and as I am Head of Slytherin; you think I will not turn the person over to the authorities."
"I never said that Severus," Albus said reprovingly.
"You implied it very strongly then."
