"No …definitely not because as long as Slytherin House still exists, there will be another Voldemort rising. I'm keeping my eye on two boys whom I think have great potential …Marcus Flint a fifth year Slytherin with a background much like Tom's and also Harry. Even though he was sorted in Ravenclaw; he very powerful and charismatic just as Tom was in his time. He could easily become the next Voldemort with Flint as his second-in-command."
James' mouth dropped open and he looked completely gob-smacked for a moment and then said, "I guess it's good that his name is no longer Potter."
"Neville Longbottom could have easily been the Boy-Who-Lived instead of Harry," Albus mused. "Perhaps I should try and mold him to fight the next dark wizard, but with Alice and Frank back …"
What do you mean Alice and Frank are back?" Sirius asked. "I thought they were locked up in St. Mungo's completely and permanently bonkers."
"Apparently Severus invented a potion that helped them regain their sanity."
"Oh fantastic!" James groused. "Now I'll have to listen to everyone praising that slimy Slytherin for inventing a cure for the Cruciatus Curse."
Harry and his friends were seated at the Hufflepuff table the next morning. Harry was telling his friends about his visit to his aunt and uncle's home and how they had admitted what they did to him was child abuse and asked for his forgiveness.
Millie shook her head. "You're much nicer than I am, Harry. I'm really not sure I could have forgiven them."
Harry shrugged. "I didn't see any point in being angry and holding a grudge. It wouldn't have done me any good wasting all that emotional energy on bad feelings. I'd rather forgive and move on."
Hermione turned to Neville. "You know when you told us about what your great-uncle Algie did to you trying to force your magic out when he pushed you off the Blackpool Pier and out an upstairs window qualifies as child abuse and the fact that your grandmother stood by and allowed him to do it makes her an accessory to child abuse."
Neville looked shocked at Hermione's declaration. "Gran means well and she was just really worried that I was a Squib."
"Hermione's right, Neville," Cedric who had been listening to their discussion said. "You should confront your uncle, tell him what he did to you was wrong and that he needs to admit it and apologize to you. Your grandmother too."
"Cedric's right," Draco said. "What if you weren't magical? What would have happened then when he pushed you out that top floor window? You would have been seriously injured or even killed."
"It's no good trying to force a kid's magic out," Vince added. "It comes out when it's ready. Your grandma should have known that."
Neville nodded slowly. "I know it wasn't fun during that time because I never knew when Uncle Algie was lurking about ready to jump out at me and try to scare my magic out."
"Well, I don't think you have to worry about him anymore Nev," Harry assured him. "From what my mum said about your mum; I think she'd clout your great-uncle over the head with something if he tries anything like that again."
"I think she would and dad would too," Neville said brightening considerably. "I can't wait for the holidays to start so we can all be together and I'm looking forward to visiting Professor Snape's manor house."
The warning bell rang, indicating that the students had 15 minutes to get to their first class. The children got up to go to their first class.
The first week in May saw the opening of Slytherin House for tours by the other houses. Severus asked Blinky to keep a supply of refreshments including fruit, cookies, small cakes, tea and pumpkin juice on a table in the common room for their visitors.
By far the most fascinating thing for the visitors so far was the huge picture window in the common room that looked out into the Black Lake. They were thrilled when the Giant Squid appeared or an occasional appearance of the Merpeople who lived in the Lake.
"Wow! You guys have really got an interesting common room with this window," Vince said to Draco when Pomona brought her House to visit.
"We see the Giant Squid a lot," Draco answered. "Sometime it performs tricks for us."
"It makes a right pest of itself too sometimes," Severus added coming up behind Draco. "It will be in front of that window constantly now with all the children staring out of it.
"This way we can get a really good look at it," Gregg added. "Outside it only shows a tentacle or the top of its head."
"It's huge," Neville commented. "My gran said once it was probably related to the sea serpent in Loch Ness that the Muggles call the Loch Ness Monster."
"That makes sense since we're not that far from there," Greg remarked. "And it would have had to have come from somewhere. There must be a lot of underground waterways probably connecting the Black Lake to other lakes in the area," he surmised.
As the week passed, Severus noticed that the portrait of Salazar Slytherin spoke more often than he had in all the eleven years he had been head of house. Some of the older students who felt brave enough asked him questions about his views of Purebloods, Muggleborns and Muggles. Slytherin did admit to having some prejudices against Muggles. "But you need to remember in our day, fanatical religious Muggles were trying to exterminate us, most of the unfortunate people they executed weren't magical at all. I do admit my dislike of Muggles is outdated."
"Yeah, now Muggles don't hurt us anymore; they're just greedy, selfish and only interested in hurting each other financially now," an older Ravenclaw remarked.
"So, they haven't changed that much for the better?" Slytherin asked.
