So Theo, Cecil, Fran, and I have to train Atro Siuco, the lowest ranked in the S class.
He's ranked twenty on our class, the lowest you can be. He's the most likely to be targeted, especially by the top A class students.
Thankfully for us, I remember him being a decent unit in-game. I wouldn't call him a top-tier character, but he has qualities of a good unit.
He's an archer with good affinities on water and light magic. He fills the role of a supporting unit that weakens enemy units for the actually useful characters.
But if he rolls good on his level up stat increases, he can be a good secondary damage dealer.
He's a mounted unit, which is good for archers because it allows them to run away if an enemy gets too close.
"Just like Cecil, though. I thought we were gonna be the ones fighting. Training the weaker ones isn't what I was expecting" I said while looking up at the starry sky.
Seeing as I could not keep having almost no spells when my whole fighting style revolves around being a weird battle mage, these last two days I've been coming to the rooftop of the house I was residing with other male S class students.
"This place isn't the best one, though."
There are no targets, and I risk waking someone up, which isn't something I want to deal with.
"I guess I could just leave this place"
I chanted the incantation for the feather fall spell to prevent any fall damage. After casting the spell, I jumped off from the roof and landed on the ground.
I looked around and began running.
"There was a nice place to train" I remembered seeing a park with Fran when I took her to eat once.
...
...
I arrived at the park and went to a more secluded place where no one could find me.
Once I reached a nice place that was surrounded by trees and bushes, I decided to start my training.
"Before I learn new spells, I think it's best if I train manually casting spells"
The faster I become at manually casting spells, the better I can trick and bluff an attack.
Maybe I could train this with Kafka and Goldenlaw in that special class I have with them?
But that means that I'd have to tell them about the mana refund mechanics I discovered.
And I'd like to keep it a secret.
I let out a long sigh escape my mouth as I contemplated my options.
"No use in thinking about that right now"
Once I trained the manual cast for all three northern wind weapon set spells, I reached a faster speed of casting.
Although it's still slower than an automatic cast.
"Now... for the main training"
I searched the spell I wanted to learn in the spellbook.
"Breeze step"
A spell that's useful for anyone who calls themselves a thief.
It silences the carter's steps, a pretty simple spell that'd be used only for sneaking out.
But I want to incorporate it into my very own combo.
First, sandstorm to blind my enemies. After that, breeze step to make me undetectable inside that spell. And the last spell of the combo, whisper current to disorient them.
This is a tactic that requires less on catching the opponent off guard with something that they don't know, and is a natural combo that could work many times, even if the opponent knows what I'm about to do.
"Rely less on cheap tactics that only work because of a surprise factor and start doing things that are more reliable"
This is a spell combo that only I can do... not really since I think other people should be able to learn incantationless casting... and Hellen Goldenlaw can also do it...
But right now, in this specific period in time, I am the only one capable of doing it.
However, the only issue I find with this combo is that it requires three spells to be reserved for it to work.
And even if my reserve slots were increased from four to five ever since I ate those mana stones, that is still three out of the five spells I can reserve.
This means that it's a big investment in a fight.
Maybe if I increase my reserves by eating mana stones, the problem would be solved.
But it'll still be a bi commitment into a single strategy.
One thing I noticed is that, while I was planning and theorizing about ways to use magic, a big smile formed on my face.
Truly, magic is amazing. There're so many things I could do, so many things to take into account, advantages and disadvantages.
It reminds me of my time as an achievement hunter when I was in my original world.
Researching on different methods, coming up with my own ways to do something.
Learning about magic, just like I learned about the game I was playing.
The ins and outs of a game, its mechanics, the conditions to get an achievement.
If only I had more time to simply research magic.
I continued my process to learn the new spell I wanted to incorporate into my repertoire for the next two hours.
"Haaa"
I sat on the grass and breathed out my exhaustion.
"It's really cold"
It should be past midnight right now.
"This place is empty... not a single soul around here"
Just as I commented on how desolate this park was at late hours of the night, I heard a scream.
The loud scream came from a woman, and it was the kind of scream of someone who needed help.
"If I had successfully learned the breeze step spell, I could be a bit more sneaky on helping whoever was asking for help"
But my incompatibility with magic made it so much harder to learn new spells.
Not everyone is loved by mana.
I began running towards the loud scream for help I heard.
...
...
Once I reached the place, I stopped in my tracks.
"No way" I said in a whisper.
I saw a man on top of a woman who was trying to get him off of her.
I decided to leave the identities of both the victim and the other one for later.
Because I need to save that woman.
"[Wind Ram]"
My spell was launched at the man on top of the woman.
My spell hit the man, making him fly to the side far away enough for me to run next to the poor woman who was being assaulted.
"Agh, you damned..." The man said as he was beginning to stand up.
"Th-thank you" said the woman.
This is bad.
Not only because of what was happening to the woman... well, not woman... she's also a student in the first year.
But because he is the story's next boss.
The teacher that Kaida and friends will take down on this week.
"You... the one and only student that's been making a name for himself" said the teacher as he finally got on his two feet.
Horace Netherwind, E class' homeroom teacher, and a teacher for an optional magic related class.
He stands tall with slender limbs and refined clothes that fit an Aurum Academy's teacher of noble birth
And behind me.
Silva Traltrae, a D class student. She was a true npc in the game. She only existed for Kaida and friends to interrogate and help them gain proper evidence on Horace's corruption.
Because she was a simple npc, she was portrayed as a generic character with an obscured face to not make her stand out.
Sadly, I can't look at her right now to see her features as I'm more worried about keeping that teacher in my eyesight.
"And you're a teacher in Aurum Academy. What do you think you're doing with this student?" I asked with anger on my voice tone.
"I was taking what's mine. She's an absolute waste of time that can't learn magic well. So she asked me to teach her magic in after-school lessons" the teacher explained with a calm expression on his face, as if it was the most normal thing to do.
"I was just taking my payment for taking time out of my busy schedule to teach that worthless student"
"You're disgusting" I said in a low voice tone as I kept the girl behind me, protecting her from his gaze.
"Disgusting!? I personally find you disgusting, star student. A mere guy that's not blessed by the noble birth of the high classes stepping on ground not made for him"
Despite being found out about the atrocity he was about to do, he still had a calm but creepy expression on his face.
"Now, just because you've showed some talent despite a clear lack of nobility in you. I'm willing to oversee your attack on my own persona if you just leave me to do my thing with her"
"What makes you think I'd let you do something horrible"
I clenched my fist as I looked at him with a frown.
"I'm going to beat you right here, right now, and show the Academy what you were trying to do"
"Ha... hahaha" the man laughed.
"You don't seriously think that they'll simply believe you, right? I'm backed by people with power in this city. If you do something to me, you're dead"
He maniacally laughed as if he really thought he was untouchable.
"I'll make your life a living hell, and all because you wanted to be a hero and help some girl that's not worth anybody time"
