Chapter 29 - Chapter Twenty-nine

Aria's POV

A sharp throb in my arm jolted me awake. I let out a scream of pain. It felt as if thousands of sharp needles were digging into my arm trying to embed themselves inside my arm.

Panic overtook me as I felt them moving, slithering through my body. I began trashing around trying to break free. I had to get away. Everything was dark, I couldn't see, couldn't breathe.

"Shhh, Princess," a voice cooed, stroking my hair.

"It's going to be alright, you're safe. Just let Killian patch you up" the voice continued, soothing my mind.

The voice continued muttering soothing words to me till my mind finally calmed and I drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

...….....

I snuggled further into the warm, hard body embracing me. It took a while, for my brain to fully register that I was in bed with someone.

My eyes snapped open to find Kael's face staring at me. His fingers stilled it's stroke on my hair when he realized I was awake.

I was still trying to make sense of what was happening. I was in bed with Kael!. I scrambled away from him, my mouth opening to let out a small yelp.

He sighed, "I guess that means you're better now" he almost sounded....disappointed.

How did I get in bed with Kael. I was supposed to be in the woods, the monster, I was so sure it was going to kill me. Or was it one of my nightmares again. My mind was racing trying to make sense of everything.

"You can't remember what happened?" He asked, concern slipping into his voice.

"You were attacked by an A'shae,"

"After you decided to run away from your damned guard" He said, anger darkening his words.

"I wasn't trying to run away" I muttered weakly.

"Then what were you doing in the woods" he raised his voice.

"Did you know how terrified I was when I saw you bleeding on the ground, your whole arm almost ripped off" He finally yelled, his eyes darkening.

"Why do you care, Kael" I yelled.

"Oh let me guess, if I had died then you have no chance at survival right, everyone dies" I said condescendingly.

Kael looked at me, his eyes blazing with fury but he refused to answer me.

I was a little hurt, ok maybe I was really hurt that that was all I was to him. It was good to finally know where I stood.

I looked at my uninjured arm, though it was a little red and tender. I had facing memories of me screaming in pain and a voice soothing me. I didn't want to believe it was Kael, but I knew deep down that it was.

"Did you heal me?" I asked tentatively.

"No Killian did," He clenched his jaw.

"So, Killian is a healer, but how come I'm not wrapped in bandages and the wound isn't there anymore." I mused.

If Kael clenched his jaw any further, his teeth were going to crack. I almost let out a giggle at the thought.

He glared at me as if knowing what was going through my mind.

"Healers here have magic, they can heal any form of injury in a short period of without leaving even a scar"

"Oh" was all I could dumbly let out.

"He'll come to check on you in a few minutes" He added when he probably realized that was all I was going to say.

"Tell me what happened," Kael asked.

"Please," He added softly.

I took in a deep breath. "I've been having nightmares for the past few weeks" I started, looking at Kael to find him listening intently.

"It starts with me in a weird place, it was always different every time. A cliff, a river, just name it. But the one thing these nightmares have in common is a man in a black hood who always tries to kill me."

"The dreams were so vivid that I would wake up, feeling like I had been truly dying" I continued,

"So, imagine my shock when I saw the same hooded man in the woods after Jax left. I took the chance and followed him" I let out a bitter laugh realizing how foolish I had been.

"I chased after him for a while, before he suddenly vanished. I was trying to find my way back when a creature appeared behind me. I could vaguely remember running, pain and then everything went black." I finished.

"A'shae" Kael said.

"Hmm?"

"The creature that attacked you is called A'shae." He clarified.

He was about to say something when an elderly man entered the room, cutting off whatever Kael was about to say. His white, shoulder length hair was frizzy and seemed to go in different directions.

"I told you to have me called immediately she wakes" the man said to Kael in a reproachful way.

I was surprised he dared to talk to Kael in such manner but what shocked me more was seeing Kael smile at the man instead.

"Calm your tits old man. I was about to send for you" Kael responded, humor coating his words.

The man let out a huff and faced me. "My name's Killian, my lady" he said smiling.

So he was the healer I thought as I smiled back. "Just Aria is fine"

He nodded, fixing his kind gaze on me. He walked towards the bed where I sat.

He checked my arm, touching the sore, tender part and asking if anything else hurt.

"Apart from the slight pounding in my head and the tenderness of my healed arm, I feel alright"

He nodded and left a vial filled with purplish swirling liquid for me to take after I've eaten but not before informing me that it would make me feel a bit drowsy and it was better to sleep it off instead of fighting it.

After ensuring that everything was alright with me, he headed out but not before looking at Kael.

"Take care of her" he called out over his shoulder before shutting the door as quietly as he had entered.
