Xia Yuqing stood still. Her lips pressed into a thin line as she stood there in silence. She didn't argue, she didn't defend herself. She knew it was her fault. She should have been there.
"I am sorry," she apologized.
But that only made Lu Junhan angrier. "Sorry?" he repeated, his tone rising. "Do you really think sorry is enough?"
He let out a bitter laugh and glared at her. "Will your apology erase what she went through? Will it take away her pain? What if I had arrived one second later? What would you have done then?"
Xia Yuqing stayed silent.
At that moment, a weak voice broke through the tension. "W-what is going on...?"
Fei Ruyan's soft voice came from his chest. She slowly lifted her head, her eyes full of confusion and fear. Her cheeks were wet with tears, and her lips trembled.
Lu Junhan looked down at her immediately, his face softening. "It's alright," he whispered. "I'm here now. You're safe."
