Back at the Mansion
Evie walked through the mansion hallway, inspecting the vase arrangements and checking for any flaws in the cleaning. Her eyes roamed with a critical gaze—nothing escaped her attention. But her body immediately stiffened when she felt an arm wrap around her waist. A soft gasp escaped her lips as his scent enveloped her like a warm blanket. She didn't need anyone to tell her who it was.
Turning slowly, she spoke in a low, pointed voice, "Lucas, sometimes I wonder if you leave your brain behind on purpose."
Lucas only chuckled, pulling her gently until her back rested against his chest. Another gasp escaped her lips as her eyes darted around the hallway.
"If losing my brain means having you, then consider me brainless, my queen."
"Lucas," she warned, her voice barely above a whisper, "you seem to be running low on shame these days. Stop it."
Yet, her breath came out slightly raspy—betraying the conflict she tried so hard to mask.
