Arthur flew towards the base using the thrusters in his armor leaving a faint trail of blue light. He was flying very close to the ground to avoid enemy fighters. As he neared the base what he saw made him double take.
The base was under full-scale assault. Thousands of Chimerians charged like a living tide, their war cries echoing across the battlefield. Massive twenty-meter-tall mechas with spider-like legs advanced steadily, their thick metal legs crushing debris underfoot as they unleashed devastating barrages from their front-mounted energy cannons. Each impact sent shockwaves through the terrain.
The base's energy shield still held strong but for how long is questionable, the cannons on the base wall fired plasma bolts but the energy shielding of the mechas prevented them from damaging them.
Above, fighter jets from both sides tangled in vicious dog fights, twisting and rolling as plasma bolts and missiles streaked across the sky, leaving trails of fire and smoke. The ECHOs and space marines fought desperately, firing their weapons in controlled bursts, dodging incoming attacks, and holding the line.
The number of elites and commanders Arthur can see from his position is mind boggling.
Arthur's gaze sharpened. 'There's too many of them.'
He didn't wait any longer, his senses expanded, his technopathy spreading like an invisible web over the battlefield. Within moments, he connected to the Chimerian mechas, feeling the complex network of commands running through their systems. He bypassed firewalls and countermeasures with ruthless efficiency, his control slipping into their core functions like a dagger between ribs.
Then…he shut them down one by one.
One by one, the towering mechas faltered, their massive legs locking in place before their glowing red cannons dimmed. The battlefield momentarily froze as confusion rippled through the Chimerian ranks.
…
Inside the UFE base, the command center buzzed with urgent voices and beeping consoles.
"Commander!" a technician shouted, eyes wide as she stared at her screen. "Something's happening to the enemy mechas! They're shutting down…!"
Commander Aldric Ryker turned sharply, his grizzled features tightening with suspicion. "What? Are you sure?"
"Yes, sir! Look!" The technician pulled up a real-time feed, showing as more than half of the mechas shutting down amidst the battlefield, their weapons and shields becoming inactive.
A tense silence filled the room for a moment. Then Ryker slammed his fist on the table. "This is our chance! All units, focus fire on those disabled mechas! Wipe them out before they come back online!" He did not know why this was happening but he sure was not going to miss the opportunity while the shields of the mechas were down.
The order was relayed instantly.
Out on the battlefield, the sudden shutdown of the mechas hadn't gone unnoticed by the UFE soldiers.
"What the hell just happened?" an ECHO soldier muttered, ducking behind cover as plasma fire rained down around him.
"No clue, but I'm not complaining," his squadmate responded, lining up a shot with his EM sniper rifle.
[A/N: EM- Electromagnetic]
From the fortress walls, massive anti-armor cannons adjusted their aim, targeting the frozen mechas. In the span of seconds, the battlefield transformed.
Boom!Boom!Boom!
One of the disabled mechas exploded as a direct hit from the base's heavy artillery tore through its hull. Flames erupted from its core, sending molten shrapnel flying in all directions.
"HELL YEAH!" a space marine roared as the explosion sent shockwaves across the battlefield.
Another mecha collapsed, its shield failing completely before a barrage of concentrated fire ripped through its armor. The moment it hit the ground, another cannon shot finished it off, detonating its internal power source in a brilliant blue explosion.
The ECHOs and marines rallied as one by one the mechas were taken down.
"Keep pushing forward!"
"Take them down while they're confused!"
The battle cry spread like wildfire, reinvigorating the UFE forces. Plasma rifles, railguns, and heavy artillery roared in unison, hammering the immobilized mechas and the confused Chimerians alike.
The Chimerians, caught off guard, struggled to react. Their ground troops hesitated, breaking formation as their mechanical support crumbled before their eyes.
Arthur smirked as he watched from above. 'That should create an advantage for the UFE soldiers.'
But the battle was far from over.
Even as the mechas fell, Arthur's eyes caught movement from several Chimerian elites and commanders rushing forward, their energy weapons igniting as they sought to turn the tide. The war was still raging, and he wasn't done yet.
With a burst of his thrusters, Arthur finally dove into the fray.
…
Arthur plummeted from the sky like a meteor. His thrusters roared, adjusting his trajectory as he zeroed in on the heart of the Chimerian forces. The moment his boots touched the ground, the impact sent a shockwave outward, kicking up dirt and debris. The Chimerians nearby staggered, momentarily thrown off balance.
Then he moved.
Like a blur Arthur surged forward, his sword igniting in his hand. The first elite Chimerian barely had time to react before Arthur's blade sliced clean through its armor. The Chimerian's shriek was cut short as its upper body separated from its legs, collapsing in a spray of violet blood.
Arthur didn't stop.
With fluid precision, he twisted, sidestepping an energy spear thrust before grabbing the attacker's wrist. His grip crushed the Chimerian's forearm like snapping a twig. A pained roar erupted from the alien, but Arthur had already wrenched the spear free and drove it through the enemy's chest, impaling it to the ground.
He turned again. Another elite lunged at him, a massive plasma blade humming with deadly energy. Arthur ducked under the swing, his free hand shooting forward to grasp the elite's face. With a single pulse of his immense strength, he crushed its skull like a fruit, dropping the lifeless body without a second thought.
The battlefield had become his playground.
Every movement was a dance of death…fluid, brutal, and efficient.
Arthur's sword carved through enemy ranks, severing limbs, bisecting bodies, and cleaving through thick armor as if it were paper. The Chimerians fought back fiercely, their energy weapons crackling as they fired relentlessly at him, but it was futile. Their attacks barely scratched his armor, the plasma bolts and kinetic rounds dissipating harmlessly against the advanced alloy plating.
They had no chance.
Within moments, more than fifty elite Chimerians lay dead around him, their bodies sprawled in heaps of twisted limbs and shattered armor. The remaining soldiers hesitated, fear creeping into their eyes.
The commanders finally decided to take care of the new enemy that arrived. And ten of them approached Arthur.
Each one stood taller and broader than the elites, their armor bulkier, their weapons more menacing. Their dark red chitinous exoskeletons gleamed under the battlefield lights, their glowing visors locked onto Arthur with predatory intent.
One of them stepped forward, gripping a massive war axe that crackled with unstable energy.
"You…!" the commander growled, its deep voice reverberating through the air. Seeing someone had the audacity to leave the defense line and infiltrate where their numbers are the highest.
Arthur tilted his head slightly. "Took you long enough to notice."
The commander roared and lunged, swinging the axe with enough force to shatter a meter thick titanium wall. Arthur didn't flinch. He raised his left arm, and the axe struck his vambrace with a thunderous clang.
The weapon stopped cold.
The Chimerian commander barely had time to process what had happened before Arthur's fist slammed into its chest, caving in its armor and sending it flying backward like a ragdoll.
Another commander attacked, this time wielding twin plasma blades. It moved with incredible speed, slashing and thrusting in a deadly flurry. Arthur caught the first blade mid-swing, twisted the commander's wrist at an impossible angle, and drove his plasma sword through its gut.
The remaining commanders wasted no time. They surrounded him, their weapons raised.
Arthur smirked. "Now this is more like it."
And then, the battle began.
…
Elsewhere on the Battlefield
Elena fired off another sniper shot, the high-powered EM round punching clean through a Chimerian elite's eye socket. She barely had time to savor the kill before another one charged toward Leo and Samir, its energy blade raised.
"Leo, left side!" she called out.
Leo heard her just in time. He pivoted, his plasma shotgun roaring as he blasted the approaching Chimerian in the chest, sending it sprawling backward. Samir finished it off with a precise thrust of his blade.
The three of them had been fighting relentlessly, moving from cover to cover, keeping each other alive. They had no idea how long they had been at it, but it felt like an eternity.
Then something crashed into the battlefield not too far from the defence line.
The impact was immense, sending debris and dust flying everywhere. For a brief moment, they thought it was another cannon shot from the base's cannons. But then, through the thick smoke, a familiar silhouette emerged.
A figure in sleek armor. A blue glow emanating from its thrusters. A sword humming in its grip.
"…No way," Samir muttered.
Elena's eyes widened as she adjusted her scope. The design of the armor. There was no mistaking it.
"Arthur."
Leo exhaled, shaking his head with a disbelieving grin. "That crazy b*stard actually made it back so fast."
As the dust cleared, they could finally see him in full. Arthur was in the middle of the Chimerian horde, moving like a force of nature, cutting down elites like they were nothing. His blade flashed, and another enemy fell. Plasma bolts struck his armor, but he ignored them. Then, as they watched, ten nearly nine feet tall Chimerian commanders surrounded him.
Their relief was instant.
Elena chuckled. "They have no idea what they just got themselves into."
Leo smirked. "I almost feel bad for them."
As they watched Arthur fight, a renewed sense of determination surged through them. Their leader was back. Their strongest warrior had returned.
The battle was far from over, but now…the advantage was on their side.
