It was another bright and sunny day.
As Gwen nibbled on the hotel breakfast, she mumbled, "I want to eat the food Daddy makes."
Mike couldn't help but smile.
Being able to win over the kids with his cooking was one of his proudest achievements. It brought him more joy than taking down a hundred Deacon Frosts.
"When we get home, I'll cook for you."
"Okay!"
Gwen nodded obediently and asked, "Daddy, where are we going today?"
"We'll decide after Aunt Raven comes back."
"Aunt Raven?" Gwen said with surprise. "She's coming with us?"
"She's finished her work. Now she has time to be with us."
"That's great!"
Gwen jumped up in excitement, and in her excitement, accidentally spat out the breakfast she was chewing.
"Ah!"
She let out a yelp and quickly covered her mouth.
"Hehe!"
The little one giggled foolishly, then scooped the food bits into her hands and tossed them into the trash bin.
Mike watched and couldn't help but laugh.
Knock knock!
There was a knock on the door.
"It must be Aunt Raven!"
Gwen shouted happily.
Mike stood up and pointed at the few leftover crumbs on the table. "You clean this up. I'll get the door!"
Gwen nodded and scanned the table like a little inspector, picking up every last breadcrumb.
When Mike opened the door, he saw a familiar figure and smiled.
Blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin, and a stunning figure.
It was Raven's true appearance.
"Mike!"
Raven called softly, wrapped her arms around his neck, gave him a quick kiss, and then entered the room, clinging to his arm.
She was in a good mood.
Not only had she overachieved on her mission, but she had also received a generous commission.
More importantly, she now had a few days to spend here with Mike.
Just thinking about it filled her with joy.
"Gwen!"
Raven waved at Gwen with a bright smile.
Hearing the familiar voice, Gwen quickly tossed the last bits of food into the trash and turned around with a smile.
But the smile froze on her face. "Who are you?"
Seeing this unfamiliar woman being so affectionate with Mike, Gwen looked at him with a strange expression.
Who are you?
Mike froze for a second, glanced at Raven, and smacked his forehead. "Raven—your appearance."
When she first met Gwen, Raven had used her shapeshifting powers to look like someone else.
Raven immediately realized what had happened. She looked at the confused Gwen and hesitated.
Noticing her hesitation, Mike paused for a moment and said, "Wait a minute."
He took Gwen's hand and led her into his bedroom.
He needed to explain Raven's situation to Gwen first and mentally prepare her.
Gwen wasn't like Clark and the others. She was just a normal human.
Clark and the rest had no problem accepting it quickly. After all, they weren't exactly ordinary themselves. Knowing Raven was a mutant, seeing her powers in action, and realizing they were all "of the same kind" only made them feel closer to her, not alienated.
But Gwen…
After Mike told Gwen about Raven, Gwen immediately burst out of the room, ran up to Raven, and threw her arms around her. "Aunt Raven! Quick! Show me—transform!"
Raven looked down at Gwen.
In those big, bright eyes, there was not a trace of fear or rejection—only pure excitement and joy.
It was as if Gwen's gaze had reached out and touched her heart. Raven was deeply moved.
Another wonderful child. She truly loved all of Mike's kids.
She crouched down and gently hugged Gwen, her voice soft and warm. "Thank you, Gwen."
Just as Gwen was about to speak, she realized Aunt Raven had already changed her appearance.
"Dad—Daddy!"
She blinked at the "Mike" who was holding her, then turned to look at the real Mike standing at the bedroom door. Her face lit up with glee. "This is awesome! Two Daddies!"
Raven laughed and changed again.
Instantly, Gwen became even more excited.
"Do another one!"
Her eyes sparkled with anticipation.
"Gwen," Mike walked over, glancing at the now-transformed Raven, and said helplessly, "Don't spoil her too much."
He lightly patted Gwen on the head and added, "That's not very polite, you know."
"Oh," Gwen nodded obediently.
Raven shot Mike a look, then picked up Gwen and said, "I like spoiling her."
She kissed Gwen on the cheek.
Gwen giggled and made a funny face at Mike. Then, making sure Raven couldn't see, she pointed at her and gave Mike a thumbs-up.
Mike froze.
Where on earth had the little rascal learned all this?
He rolled his eyes and made a mock tickling gesture at Gwen.
Gwen quickly shrank her neck back and stuck out her tongue at him.
Raven seemed to sense their little game. She turned and asked curiously, "What are you two up to?"
"Nothing!"
Father and daughter replied in unison, then exchanged a knowing smile under Raven's suspicious gaze.
"Have you had breakfast yet?" Mike quickly changed the subject.
Raven shook her head. "Don't worry about me. I don't feel like eating."
Last night, she'd been drenched in blood. Just thinking about it still made her stomach churn.
Looking at the father-daughter duo, she said, "If you've both had breakfast, let's head out."
"Woohoo!"
Gwen jumped down from Raven's arms. "Wait for me!"
She dashed into her room and returned with her little backpack.
Every time they visited a new place, she liked to take detailed notes and give ratings.
"Where are we going?"
Raven waved her hand. "Follow me. Our destination is Parrot Jungle!"
Gwen followed behind excitedly. "Let's go!"
One tall, one small, they lined up in formation and marched out of the room.
Watching the two of them, Mike smiled happily and hurried to catch up.
For the next four days, Mike and Gwen had an amazing time in Miami with Raven.
Before they left, Mike brought up the idea again, inviting Raven to teach at Xavier's School. But she still had her reservations. She only said she'd think about it, and then parted ways with Mike.
"Sigh…"
Sitting on the plane back to New York, Gwen let out a long sigh, her little face drooping. She glanced at Mike, then sighed heavily again.
Mike's face darkened slightly. He pinched Gwen's puffy cheeks and said, "Come on now. Your aunt has things to take care of. We'll see her again."
"Okay." Gwen nodded, then looked up at Mike and said, "Daddy, you better step up your game."
Mike chuckled, gave her nose a playful flick, and gave her a gentle pinch.
"You cheeky little thing."
Gwen snuggled against Mike's hand and grinned happily.
As the plane took off, Mike and Gwen left the city behind, heading home.
Oh, right.
On the third day after the Bloodbath Incident, Mike received a wire transfer from Coulson. He also got updated information on what had happened afterward.
After their investigation, S.H.I.E.L.D. confirmed the intelligence about Deacon Frost was accurate. However, by the time they were fully prepared and arrived at the target location, it was already too late.
The vampires had already fled and vanished once more.
Mike had only shrugged in response, said "Good luck," and hung up the phone.
