Chapter 110 - Shoto

The crashing waves were the first thing I became aware of. Not a gentle lapping, but a furious, earth-shattering roar that vibrated through my very being. It was a symphony of chaos and power, a sound I instinctively understood. Then came the cold. Not the biting, numbing cold of a winter storm, but a deep, permeating chill that spoke of unfathomable depths and ancient secrets.

I opened my eyes.

Gone was the sterile white of a hospital room, the flickering fluorescent lights that had been my constant companion in my final days. Instead, I was greeted by a breathtaking vista of turquoise and emerald. Sunlight danced on the surface of the water, illuminating schools of fish that darted through the coral reefs below. Above, the endless expanse of the Aegean sky was a canvas of vibrant blue, streaked with wisps of white clouds.

I was standing on a balcony, the marble cool beneath my bare feet. The air was thick with the scent of salt and something else, something ancient and…divine. My body felt different, stronger, taller. I ran a hand through my hair. It cascaded down my back in thick waves, the colour of deep ocean currents.

Panic began to claw at my throat. Where was I? What was happening? The last thing I remembered was the searing pain, the fading light…the end.

Then, images flooded my mind, not memories, but knowledge, innate and undeniable. I saw myself, a being of immense power, commanding the oceans, shaping the tides, ruling over the creatures of the deep. I saw a majestic palace, shimmering with pearls and coral, nestled within the heart of the sea.

I was Poseidon.

The God of the Sea.

The weight of this realization was immense, almost crushing. Shoto Todoroki, the son of a hero, the student who had fought so hard to define his own path, was gone. Or rather, he was… transformed. He was something else entirely, something far beyond human comprehension.

The balcony overlooked a vast courtyard, teeming with activity. Merfolk, their scales shimmering in the sunlight, tended to gardens of kelp and coral. Naiads, their hair woven with seaweed and seashells, danced gracefully around fountains that spouted water in dazzling displays. Triton blew his conch shell, announcing something I instinctively understood.

A messenger was approaching.

He bowed low before me, his blue eyes wide with reverence. "Lord Poseidon," he said, his voice echoing slightly in the vast space. "The delegation from Atlantis has arrived."

Atlantis. It was more than just a name in a dusty book. It was real, a thriving city beneath the waves, ruled by my son, Triton. My son… the concept was still foreign, yet I knew it to be true.

"Lead them to the Great Hall," I commanded, my voice resonating with authority I didn't know I possessed.

As I walked through the palace, I was overwhelmed by the sheer grandeur of it all. Walls adorned with shimmering pearls, floors paved with polished coral, chambers filled with treasures plundered from sunken ships. I tried to reconcile this opulence with the simple life I had known, the struggles I had endured.

In the Great Hall, the Atlantean delegation awaited me. They were regal figures, their bodies adorned with intricate jewelry crafted from precious metals found only in the deepest trenches of the ocean. Their leader, a woman with piercing green eyes and a commanding presence, stepped forward.

"Lord Poseidon," she greeted me, her voice respectful but firm. "We have come to discuss the rising tensions along the border. The Karkinos tribe grows bolder with each passing day."

The Karkinos. Crab-like humanoids known for their aggression and territoriality. Another piece of the puzzle that was my new life. I listened to their concerns, my mind quickly processing the complex political landscape of the underwater world.

It was then that I realized this wasn't just about wielding immense power. It was about responsibility. These people, these merfolk, these naiads, these Atlanteans…they depended on me. They looked to me for guidance, for protection. I was their leader.

The task felt daunting, terrifying even. But something else stirred within me – a sense of purpose, a determination to fulfill this new role, just as I had strived to fulfill my role as a hero.

Days turned into weeks, weeks into months. I learned the intricacies of ocean law, the nuances of diplomacy, the ancient magic that flowed through my veins. I met with other gods – Zeus, my volatile brother, who ruled the skies; Hades, the melancholic king of the Underworld; Hera, the formidable queen of Olympus.

Their personalities were as vast and unpredictable as the forces they commanded. Zeus was prone to fits of rage and impulsive decisions, while Hades remained shrouded in mystery and shadowed by grief. Hera, despite her regal composure, seemed to carry the weight of countless betrayals and resentment.

They regarded me with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. I was the new kid on the block, a mortal soul thrust into the realm of gods. They wondered if I was worthy, if I could handle the responsibility that had been thrust upon me.

I spent hours exploring my kingdom, diving into the deepest trenches, swimming alongside whales, even battling monstrous creatures that lurked in the darkest corners of the ocean. I learned to harness my powers, to control the tides, to summon storms, to heal the wounded.

I also learned about the loneliness of being a god. The distance between me and the beings I ruled was vast, unbridgeable. I was revered, respected, even feared, but rarely understood.

One evening, as I sat on my balcony, watching the sunset paint the sky in fiery hues, I felt a pang of longing for my old life. I missed my friends, my classmates, my mentors. I missed the simple joys of human connection.

But then, I looked out at the vast ocean, teeming with life, shimmering with potential, and I knew I couldn't turn back. This was my new reality, my new destiny. I was Poseidon, the God of the Sea, and I would do everything in my power to protect my kingdom, to guide my people, and to carve my own path in this strange and wondrous new world.

The weight of the responsibility was still heavy, but now, it was accompanied by a glimmer of hope. Perhaps, in this new life, in this extraordinary role, I could finally find the peace and purpose I had always sought. The waves crashed against the shore, a constant reminder of the power I wielded, the challenges that lay ahead, and the endless possibilities that awaited me in the depths of the sea. My journey had just begun.
