Serena tries another attack. Now he makes a violent water tornado. It's a massive water tornado that quickly grows and engulfs Acnologia who flies quite high, far above the water.
Seeing Acnologia is engulfed by the violent water tornado makes Serena smirk. But that smirk seems to be full of nervousness because he is actually not confident his attack will hurt Acnologia and he is right.
The violent water tornado suddenly burst and dispersed. Acnologia simply makes a shockwave by sending magic power out of his body and flaps his wings. There is no scratch on his body, only a face that looks a little bored.
Serena's face is full of disbelief after seeing his attack didn't have any effect on Acnologia. But it doesn't discourage him. It makes him angry instead because he is full of pride.
He roars angrily and finally releases all his magic power. Alex isn't surprised like everyone else because he has already sensed how much magic power that Serena has.
Well, he shouldn't be surprised because Serena's magic power is nothing compared to Acnologia. He who has sensed Acnologia's seemingly endless magic power wouldn't be shocked by Serena's magic power that's much lower than that.
Though Alex is surprised when Serena suddenly transforms. It's not a transformation like what Take-Over Mages can do. He is just activating his Dragon Force where he gains some traits of a Dragon.
White scales appear on some parts of his body including his face. Even his hair turns white at the end of each strand. His claws and fangs also grow and become incredibly sharp.
Then, he forms a pair of wings on his back using wind. He doesn't grow real wings, but he forms them using his Gale Dragon Slayer Magic. The draconic traits he gets are also from the Gale Dragon Lacrima.
Serena flaps his wings and flies off from the ship toward Acnologia. Being on the airship hindered his attacks. He couldn't use big scales attacks because then he would lose his footing. It certainly wasn't because he was worried about hurting the others.
So he decides to leave the airship and to do that, he needs to fly because they are on the sea. He can't stand on the water like Alex, after all. So his only choice is flying and he can use the Gale Dragon's wind magic to fly.
8 big different-colored magic circles appear around the flying Serena. Each magic circle is a different Dragon Slayer Magic he has. Then from each magic circle, a different-colored magic beam is shot at Acnologia.
The beams intertwine in a spiral motion with each other, combining into a powerful spiral magic blast. Acnologia seems to be excited by this attack which is much stronger than the previous attacks.
So Acnologia takes a deep breath and shoots a powerful Dragon Roar. This will be the first time Acnologia's and Serena's spells clash against each other.
Their attacks clash and it's closer to Acnologia's position. They hit each other and create a very powerful shockwave that pushes the seawater below away, creating a massive bowl on the sea.
Alex is pushed back because the water where he stays is pushed. The airships are also pushed back by the powerful shockwave, making them go even further from the battle.
Now all of them know they really can't join in this battle because they won't be able to do anything. While it's frustrating, it's a clear fact that Serena is much stronger than them and is the only one who can fight Acnologia.
Though whether he can defeat Acnologia is not certain either. Still, they think that if someone has the chance, it will be Serena who is much stronger than them and also has 8 types of Dragon Slayer Magic that should be effective against a Dragon like Acnologia.
Only Alex is sure that Serena certainly doesn't have a chance to defeat Acnologia. Sure his Dragon Slayer Magic might be effective against Acnologia who is a Dragon now. But Serena's power is not even as strong as August or even Zeref who couldn't do anything against Acnologia either.
As if to prove his guess, Acnologia's Dragon Roar pushes back Serena's 8 Dragon Slayer Magic attack combination. Size-wise, Acnologia's attack is smaller, but it packs so much more power than Serena's attack.
A very powerful explosion happens on the spot where Serena flies. His spells are destroyed by Acnologia's powerful Dragon Roar and he is hit by that attack. Serena is sent flying like a bullet toward the airship he left.
He crashes onto the airship at a very high speed, destroying the cabins and almost breaks through the rear. The airship is pushed back from the impact and many parts are broken by the crash, but everyone survives despite many getting injured.
Surprisingly, Serena also survives that attack and only sustains light injuries. Before Acnologia's attack hit him, Alex saw him creating a layer of shiny crystal over his skin. He was using his Diamond Dragon Slayer Magic to protect himself.
'So if he was given the chance to use his skills against Acnologia, he could fight this decently. He didn't even have the chance to show his skills when facing Acnologia in the series because he was killed too fast by Acnologia who didn't give him any chance to fight. He didn't even have the chance to use this diamond skin spell.'
The Acnologia who killed Serena in one shot in the series was just someone who wanted to kill. But the current Acnologia wants to have an exciting fight. That's why he let Serena attack him and doesn't immediately go for the kill.
Maybe that's why when he attacked Tenrou Island, Acnologia didn't just destroy everything when he arrived even though there were 4 Dragon Slayers on the island.
He enjoyed the fight they could offer him before deciding to destroy the whole island when he had enough. That's similar to the current situation where he seems to play around for now, but it means he will just destroy everything later.
Alex just hopes that Acnologia will be satisfied with just killing Serena later. It will be very bad if he also wants to kill everyone else here or even goes to destroy the town.
Serena gets up and looks at his body in disbelief. He thought his Diamond skin would be able to protect him perfectly, but Acnologia still can break some parts.
Also, it's not visible from the outside, but the impact of Acnologia's attack actually damages some of his internal organs, including some of his bones that get cracked.
What he should realize is Acnologia ended the era of Dragons by killing almost all Dragons himself. That means he also must've killed the Diamond Dragon whose power he uses now and the real Diamond Dragon's skin should be even harder than the one Serena can make.
Serena gets out of the airship and flies again with a furious expression. Alex must praise him on this because he still doesn't give up. He might be an asshole, but Serena is surely not a coward who'll run away from a very difficult battle.
Now, Serena's body is fully covered with a thicker diamond skin to increase his defense. He still flies using the wind wings. He flies toward Acnologia while preparing for his next attack.
Serena changes his attack and uses another spell. 8 different-colored energy in the shape of asian Dragons come out of the sea below Acnologia. They quickly wrap themselves around Acnologia's body.
Acnologia doesn't even resist when the 8 Dragons bite him on different parts. After the 8 Dragons bit Acnologia, 8 big different-colored seal marks appear on his body. Serena is using 2 of his strongest spells at the same time.
"DRAGON GOD'S FANG! EIGHT DRAGONS' FLORIOUS DEATH! NOW DIE, ACNOLOGIA!"
Right after Serena shouts, his spells explode. The combined spells' explosion is very massive and powerful. It's even bigger than when Acnologia's attack hit Serena before that it seems to cover the entire sky.
Even Serena himself is being pushed back by the shockwave of his attack. He poured all of his magic power into that attack, that's why it's very powerful. He believes that with this, he'll be able to severely injure Acnologia.
Everyone else also believes so. Even Alex thinks that it will at least damage Acnologia although only some light damage. He is correct, but it doesn't make Alex happy in the slightest.
When the explosion effect disappears, Acnologia shows up with an intact body. His body is covered with light blue energy. Although he has received some damage, it's only some burns and scratches on his scales.
Everyone looks in shock and disbelief. Even Serena's prideful and haughty heart is finally filled with fear. He has poured all he has on that attack, yet it doesn't work.
Now he just wants to flee because not only all his attacks are useless, he also has run out of magic power. But before he can even move his body, Acnologia makes an attack.
Acnologia gathers magic power on his right hand, creating a small blue ball. He throws it at Serena who wants to fly away. But the blue ball is so fast it already hits his body before he can get away.
Then *BOOM*, a much bigger explosion than even Serena's strongest attack happens. It truly engulfs the whole area, engulfing the sea below and reaching the sky above. It's so big that it can even be seen and felt from another continent.
Yet it doesn't seem like Acnologia is putting that much effort to make it. Alex thought that he has roughly gauged Acnologia's power, but it seems like he is still underestimating it. This situation might be worse than what happened in the series.
