Chapter 7 - Read Receipts

Momo was trembling like a leaf, curled up against Yozora's chest, her wide eyes locked on his face. No, not his face—his eyes. Those swirling, bottomless voids that stared at her with a hunger that was somehow both loving and homicidal.

"I... I-I didn't mean to—" she whispered, her voice a terrified squeak.

"Decisions, decisions," Yozora murmured, his voice a dark, musical hum. He was smiling, but his smile was twitching—flickering at the edges like a broken lightbulb. "So many ways to punish you, Momo..."

She felt her breath catch, her panic a boiling pressure in her chest. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Why didn't you just reply?! she screamed internally. "K!" A single letter! He would've loved a "K!"

Yozora's fingers brushed her cheek, and she nearly screamed right then and there. "Should I start with your hands? You did use them to ignore me, after all." His voice was sweet, like a lullaby sung by a chainsaw.

"I-I'm sorry!" she squeaked, pressing herself further into his chest like she could become one with his shirt. "I-I was busy! My brother needed help, a-and—"

"Excuses, Momo..." Yozora whispered, leaning closer, so close she could feel his cold breath. "Maybe I should just—"

His hand shot to her throat, not squeezing, just resting, his thumb brushing against her pulse, feeling it hammer wildly beneath her skin. His smile widened, twitching, his void-like eyes drinking in her terror.

Then he tilted his head, thoughtful. "Or maybe... I should make you say sorry a hundred times? No, a thousand. In one breath. And if you fail—"

"I-I-I-I'm sorry! I'm so so so so so sorry!" she blurted, barely breathing, her words tripping over each other in her blind panic. "I love you, I love you, please don't—"

Yozora's smile settled, his fingers shifting to gently stroke her hair. "Oh, Momo... when you cry, it's so cute I almost forgive you."

"A-Almost?" she whispered, a fresh wave of tears spilling.

"But you did leave me on read." He leaned closer, his voice a low, dark purr. "And I need to teach you a lesson."

Momo's eyes were full of terror, her mind a chaotic blur of screaming, Why didn't I just send an emoji?! Even a typo! A random letter! Anything!

Yozora's smile softened, his void-like eyes narrowing with delight. "Well... I guess I'll just have to hold you a little tighter tonight. So you never forget who you belong to."

He wrapped his arms around her, squeezing just a bit too tightly. She couldn't breathe, couldn't think—trapped in the arms of her loving, deranged boyfriend.

And through her panic, she had one clear, desperate thought:

I am NEVER leaving him on read again.
