Prior to this, Fang Chang had already completed his evolution, transforming from a Netherworld Soul-chasing Spider into a Bloodwing Demon Spider.
He had also gained a new ability called "Blood Wings," which not only granted him flight but also allowed him to double his speed for a limited time.
Considering that he was already a soul beast with over 500,000 years of cultivation, his speed surpassed even that of most agility-type Title Douluo above the 95th rank. With the Blood Wings ability doubling that speed, he had reached a truly terrifying level.
His opponent was a titled elder from the Spirit Hall known as the Holy Dragon Douluo, a 96th-rank powerhouse with a dragon-type martial soul—the White Armored Earth Dragon.
Yet even so, he couldn't clearly track Fang Chang's movements. All he could perceive was a shadow flickering in and out of the void as if teleporting.
Under the threat of death, the Holy Dragon Douluo barely had time to cross his arms in front of his chest in a defensive stance while simultaneously activating his Martial Soul True Body.
Thud!
Before his transformation could fully complete, Fang Chang's palm strike sent him flying. The impact carried a freezing force, coating the Holy Dragon Douluo's arms in a layer of pale ice. The chilling energy seeped into his body, making him shudder violently.
Fortunately, his Martial Soul True Body had fully manifested by then, transforming him into a massive white-gold dragon over twenty meters long.
With a grunt, the Holy Dragon Douluo channeled his vast soul power to expel the invasive cold energy before lifting his head to glare at Fang Chang, who hovered mid-air.
Across the battlefield, three clashes stood out. The Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo each held their own in separate zones, positioned relatively close to each other—less than a hundred meters apart.
The third battle was between Fang Chang and the Holy Dragon Douluo, taking place much farther away, nearly a kilometer from the others.
As the Holy Dragon Douluo's massive dragon form fully materialized, nearby soldiers were instantly flung aside. Those who followed instinctively avoided the area, creating an unusual vacuum in the midst of the battlefield.
The Holy Dragon Douluo's gaze swept over Fang Chang, growing increasingly suspicious. He refused to believe anyone could make him suffer such losses without even summoning a martial soul.
Yet he couldn't discern Fang Chang's true nature, leaving him deeply unsettled.
Meanwhile, Fang Chang had already gauged his opponent's strength from their brief exchange.
Normally, a 200,000-year soul beast could easily overpower a Title Douluo above the 95th rank. For particularly powerful species, defeating multiple opponents at the 97th or 98th rank wasn't difficult.
Fang Chang, now with over 500,000 years of cultivation and multiple evolutions under his belt, even had a chance of defeating the Sea God Douluo, Bo Saixi, in a direct confrontation.
In his estimation, the Holy Dragon Douluo's combat power—even with his Martial Soul True Body—was roughly on par with the Titan Giant Ape, Er Ming. And right now, Fang Chang was equivalent to three or four Er Mings combined.
Defeating him wouldn't be hard. The real challenge lay in doing so without revealing his identity as a soul beast.
After a long hesitation, the Holy Dragon Douluo broke the stalemate first. His draconic head reared back, golden light gathering in his maw before erupting in a searing beam aimed straight at Fang Chang.
Fang Chang sidestepped casually, evading the attack effortlessly.
But the Holy Dragon Douluo adjusted instantly, swiveling his head to track Fang Chang's movement, the golden beam pursuing relentlessly.
Hmph.
Fang Chang snorted and abruptly stopped dodging, allowing the beam to strike him head-on as he charged straight through it toward the Holy Dragon Douluo.
The attack's overwhelming radiance and the sheer density of soul power it carried actually masked Fang Chang's aura slightly.
Seizing the opportunity, Fang Chang shot through the golden beam, closing the distance in an instant. His hands came together, conjuring a spear of ice wreathed in flames—two opposing forces that should have canceled each other out but instead amplified one another in a bizarre synergy.
"Icefire Demon Spear!"
With a roar, Fang Chang drove the weapon straight into the White Armored Earth Dragon's maw, piercing clean through its lower jaw.
The golden beam dissipated as the Holy Dragon Douluo let out an agonized howl. Nearly half his jawbone had been shattered, blood pouring freely.
Fang Chang, meanwhile, had taken the full brunt of the attack yet emerged with only his clothes scorched black, his body virtually unharmed.
Such were the benefits of supreme defensive prowess!
If a 500,000-year soul beast specializing in offense could kill a 96th-rank Title Douluo while sustaining minor injuries, then one focused on defense could make that same opponent despair. And if that soul beast also possessed considerable offensive power? Total domination.
After gaining control over ice and fire at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Fang Chang's previously mediocre attack power had skyrocketed to new heights.
Now, even in a direct confrontation, he could suppress the Holy Dragon Douluo with ease. The only issue was that fighting so openly risked exposing his true nature.
It took the Holy Dragon Douluo a long time to recover enough to keep fighting. When he finally raised his head again, his eyes held a trace of fear.
Just what kind of monster is he?!
The Holy Dragon Douluo was now 80-90% certain this "Spider God's Envoy" wasn't human, yet he couldn't be entirely sure.
If not for the battlefield and the countless Spirit Hall soldiers watching, he would have fled long ago. But now...
He glanced at the other two battle zones. The Sword Douluo was barely holding his ground, while the Bone Douluo—even with support from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School disciples—was showing signs of fatigue under the assault of two 95th-rank Title Douluo.
Just hold out a little longer. Once those battles conclude, we can gang up on this Spider God's Emissary. I refuse to believe five of us can't take down one man!
With this plan in mind, renewed determination flashed in his eyes as he looked up to face...
Wait—where did he go?!
The Holy Dragon Douluo's heart lurched. Fang Chang had vanished from the sky. His pupils contracted as he whipped his head around—just in time to see a streak of crimson light flash past.
An Icefire Demon Spear plunged into the back of one of the Title Douluo besieging the Bone Douluo.
Before anyone could react, Fang Chang followed up with a palm strike that sent the second attacker flying meters away.
Taking advantage of the Holy Dragon Douluo's distraction, Fang Chang had used his Blood Wings' speed boost to ambush the two Title Douluo, severely wounding them in seconds.
One had already reverted from his Martial Soul True Body, kneeling weakly with a gaping hole in his chest where the spear had struck.
"Now's your chance!"
Fang Chang's voice transmitted directly into the Bone Douluo's mind through their mental link. The skeletal dragon didn't hesitate, bringing a massive foot down on the grievously injured Title Douluo.
Just like that, the first Title Douluo casualty of this war fell.
Even the Bone Douluo himself never imagined he'd one day kill an opponent who matched him in strength.
By the time the Holy Dragon Douluo processed what had happened, Fang Chang had already returned, standing before him with another Icefire Demon Spear in hand.
"Let's see what other tricks you have now."
Fang Chang's mocking voice rang out as he twirled the deadly weapon.
"Despicable! Shameless! Underhanded!"
The Holy Dragon Douluo spat the words through his ruined jaw, hurling every insult he could muster. "A Title Douluo of your standing actually resorts to ambushes?!"
Fang Chang laughed. "This is war. Do you really think anyone cares about honor in life-or-death battles? If you'd had the chance to ambush me, you wouldn't have hesitated either."
His words struck home, leaving the Holy Dragon Douluo speechless. With no other choice, he could only keep fighting.
But he was already outmatched. The earlier spear strike had dealt critical damage, and now he had to split his attention between Fang Chang and the other battle zones, watching for potential reinforcements.
In this state, resisting Fang Chang became impossible. After just a few exchanges, Fang Chang found an opening and drove his Icefire Demon Spear straight through the dragon's throat, ending the battle.
Until the very end, the Holy Dragon Douluo never discovered Fang Chang's true identity—nor did he get the chance to reveal that his opponent wasn't human at all.
