"Move aside!"
Prey, the priest, bellowed angrily.
The monks, stunned, froze in place, watching as Father Prey charged to the farthest end of the church.
He strode quickly across the church hall, heading straight to the backyard, where the clergy's quarters were located, also serving as the priest's home. Father Prey pounded fiercely on the fragile door, his voice shrill.
Soon after, a woman opened the door from inside; under the moonlight, her face was extremely pale.
"Alice."
Father Prey stepped into the room, saying in a low voice.
In this era, it was quite common for clergy to marry. Indeed, some parishes even had female priests and female-led congregations.
Alice stepped back, watching her husband bustle anxiously into their home before slamming the door shut.
"God, look at his anxious state."
Alice complained, stepping forward to help him out of his heavy priest's robe.
Father Prey breathed heavily, seeming to calm down a bit, then slowly sat on the bed.
