The tall city walls refracted a vast expanse of white light under the sunlight. Legend had it that this great city was so prosperous it possessed a thousand gates and three hundred layers of walls. Although the legend was exaggerated, the Danschel indeed had more than twenty gates and six layers of walls. Walking through the grand city gate and looking upward, one felt the walls as imposing as mountains. The imperial eagle flags hung on the towering towers, and behind the walls were densely arranged houses, many of which bore flags of various colors, representing different guilds.
