Chapter 21 - History

Eldris went to the designated place in the library, his footsteps echoing softly against the marble floors as he navigated between towering bookshelves. The musty scent of old parchment filled his nostrils as he took the books he needed from their carefully labeled positions, his fingers brushing against the worn leather spines. He then went to sit down where there was a chair and table in a quiet corner, the wooden furniture creaking slightly under his weight as he settled in.

As he sat down, the afternoon sunlight streaming through the stained-glass windows cast colorful patterns across the pages when he opened the book of the world power. The text was written in elegant calligraphy that shimmered slightly under the light. In the book it wrote that the power system of this world is based on human being connections to ancient animal, a bond that apparently determined one's entire destiny from birth.

The book state that each species on Theseus is born with different unique spiritual DNA, a concept that made Eldris frown in thought as he traced the words with his finger. And the bonding process has been written down from birth, like something exclusive to each person, predetermined and unchangeable according to the text.

The next section detailed the are different grade of the animal you bond with, listing them in careful order. They are low beast tier which has five tier which is the weakest of them, their names written in faded ink as if less important. Follow by the medium beast tier which has five tiers, slightly better but still unremarkable according to the author's tone. Next is the powerful beast which has five tiers also, the words here were bolder on the page. The high tier beast which also has five tiers which is powerful than the powerful beast tier came next, the ink practically glowing with importance. The next is the top tier beast with five tiers and lastly the legendary beast with five tiers also, these final categories written in what appeared to be actual gold leaf on the ancient pages.

This beast are still split into another group which are the attack and the defense beast, the book explained through carefully drawn diagrams showing the differences. Any bloodline that you join must fall under one of those categories, the text emphasized in bold letters. But they are some which falls under both, they are both attack and defense kind of beast, represented by special symbols that seemed to pulse as Eldris looked at them.

And they are power level for the increase of power, the book continued, the pages growing warmer as if reacting to his interest. And they are six of them, each described in meticulous detail. Which are the:

1. The sage domain with nine levels, represented by simple green icons.

2. The saint domain with 5 levels, shown with silver insignias.

3. The third is the emerald domain with 5 levels, depicted through glowing gemstone images.

4. The fourth is the demigod domain with 3 stage and twelve level, illustrated with intricate celestial maps.

5. The fifth is the pseudo god domain with 2 stages and 4 levels, marked by strange, shifting runes.

6. The sixth the god domain, represented by a single blinding symbol that made Eldris' eyes water when he looked at it too long.

And that was the end of the power system section, concluding with an elaborate sigil that seemed to move on the page.

After digesting everything from the power system, his mind swirling with this new information, I opened the books about the gods and their heroes, the cover embossed with divine imagery that seemed to watch him as he read.

In the book, it was written that the god have been with us since the time of the demon queen rise, the text becoming more dramatic as it described ancient battles. They impacted some heroes with elemental base power with addition to the normal power they have, granting them abilities beyond normal humans according to the flowing script.

But the power was not able to work with the people of the world Theseus, the book explained with what seemed like regret in its tone, so they summoned people from other world to act as their prophets and heroes. This heroes are always powerful, their names listed in columns that seemed endless.

They are 5 heroes but many gods, the text continued, the words becoming more cryptic. No one knows why it was like a that, the author admitted through hastily scribbled marginal notes. This heroes are all split into the five kingdoms even though they all belong to the same empire, the political implications sketched out in complex family trees. All this hero are to congregate at the empire every five years, the text declared with ceremonial importance. So they can plan on the defeat of the heroes, though the wording here seemed odd to Eldris. Over the years many heroes have come and go each with different characteristics and attitudes, their portraits lining the margins. Some with pride bigger than the whole Theseus and some with respect, their personalities captured in brief but vivid descriptions. All of them falls fighting the demon queen army, not even the demon queen, the text lamented, the ink here appearing darker, almost like dried blood. The bad things then is that the demon queen and her army was not yet strong like how they are now, they where pretty weak then, the words shaking as if written during an earthquake. But they where still too much for the heroes, the text finished with what seemed like resigned finality.

Although the demon empire are powerful, the book continued after a decorative divider, they can't move without a head which is the demon queen, her terrifying visage sketched in the margin.

The demon queen only awake when all the hero have gather every five years to fight after that she sleeps till the next hero gathering, the text explained in careful measured sentences. The demon queen can't help it, it was like the world collected something from her after granting her almost immense power, the phrasing here almost poetic in its tragedy.

The things is no one have ever live to tell the take of seeing the demon queen, the book whispered through fading ink. Any hero who enter the demon queen castle have come out to tell the take except one, the text building suspense. The hero of the first kingdom, it revealed with dramatic flair. He is the only one who have seen the demon queen and survive to tell the tale, his portrait glowing slightly on the page.

The bad thing about the demon queen, the text continued with renewed energy, is that most of her power are bestowed upon her four commanders, their fearsome images taking up an entire page. Which make them immensely powerful, the words practically shaking with emphasis. Almost all the heroes that died always died by the commanders hands, the ink here appearing fresh and wet despite the book's age.

The commanders where even all killed by some heroes who use suicide tactics to kill them, the text explained through gruesome battle diagrams. But they still wake up back as long as the queens live, the words pulsing with dark energy.

The commanders can die but they will wake up back in a month as long as the queen is alive, the book stated with grim certainty. Their purpose is to protect the queen and grow her armies, the text concluding with a list of known battles and casualties.

By the time Eldris finished reading, his eyes sore and his back stiff from hours of study, it was already evening, the library's lights automatically brightening as the sun set outside.

"Sometimes, history can drag someone back in time and make someone forget about the presents," Eldris said while also lamenting on the time he unknowingly spent, his voice startlingly loud in the quiet library.
