Chapter 311 - Hesitant Gabriel

After dinner, Gabriel happily went home after receiving her wages from Tohru.

Normally, the wages for maids were paid monthly, but Gabriel was a special case, so Shin allowed her to be paid daily.

Given Gabriel's personality, it was likely that even if she received her wages every day, she would spend it all on in-game purchases that very night.

Saving money probably didn't exist in Gabriel's mindset. The idea of saving up to buy back the "First Horn of Apocalypse," as Vignette had suggested, had undoubtedly been forgotten.

However, thanks to Gabriel mistakenly thinking that Shin liked cosplaying maids, Tohru had also discovered Gabriel's true identity today.

"An angel? I never expected Shin to know an angel," Tohru mused as she scrubbed Shin's back in the bath that night, feeling a bit emotional. When she saw Gabriel take out her halo and put it on that evening, it had given her quite a shock.

Although the angels in this world were somewhat different from the gods of other worlds, Tohru had been sealed by a divine sword from another world, so she still had some lingering trauma.

Fortunately, even though Gabriel had an angelic halo, her behavior didn't change because of it. She remained the same lazy, unmotivated angel she always was.

So, Tohru quickly accepted the fact and understood why Gabriel was immune to her cognitive interference magic.

"Even though she's an angel, she's not much different from an ordinary girl. Don't worry too much about her," Shin said with a smile. Gabriel was just a regular otaku now, and her angelic duties were mostly forgotten.

She probably only remembered she was an angel when she received her monthly allowance from heaven.

Speaking of which, just as Gabriel was leaving after receiving her wages, Shin received a message from Vignette.

After all, Gabriel working as a maid in someone else's house was a big deal, and as Gabriel's friend, Vignette naturally couldn't remain unaware.

Vignette had already learned about this from Gabriel at school that morning.

Although Vignette had more or less accepted that Shin wasn't a dangerous person after visiting his house last weekend, Shin was still a teenage boy in high school.

So, Vignette was still a bit worried about how Gabriel was doing at Shin's place. After Gabriel finished work, Vignette called Shin like a worried mother to ask about the situation.

While Shin thought this was something Vignette should have asked Gabriel directly, he still told her about Gabriel's situation.

He even mentioned that Gabriel received her wages every day after work.

Vignette had probably already gone to Gabriel's house to confront her—after all, if Shin knew Gabriel would spend all her money on games, Vignette definitely knew too.

Shin wondered how Gabriel would react when she tried to play games later.

...

"Healing Angel: My money was stolen!!!"

Sure enough, when Shin logged into the online game that night, he saw Gabriel privately messaging him with a pitiful complaint.

It wasn't hard to guess who had taken her money—it had to be Vignette. She had likely taken Gabriel's wages to save up and buy back the "First Horn of Apocalypse" from Shin.

Of course, Vignette wasn't completely heartless. She must have left Gabriel some of her wages.

But the amount left was undoubtedly far less than what Gabriel had planned to spend on in-game purchases, which was why Gabriel couldn't help but privately message Shin to complain about Vignette's "cruelty."

However, Gabriel clearly didn't know that Vignette had learned about her wages from Shin himself.

"Zuke: My condolences. But I'm sure Vignette left you some money, right?"

Shin replied without batting an eye, as if Gabriel's money being taken had nothing to do with him.

"Healing Angel: She did leave me some... but it's not enough! I was planning to buy a piece of upgraded jewellery. Ugh."

Gabriel's message made her sound like a typical gaming addict. It was clear that she needed someone like Vignette to keep her in check.

But Gabriel obviously didn't see it that way. After complaining, she privately messaged Shin with a new idea.

"Healing Angel: How about this, Zuke? From now on, just deposit my daily wages directly into my gaming account."

"Zuke: ...You'll have to discuss that with Tohru yourself."

Shin had already delegated all maid-related matters to Tohru—and in just a few days, Tohru had proven herself worthy of the head maid position.

It had to be said that dragons had an impressive learning ability. No wonder Tohru often looked down on humans as an inferior species.

"Healing Angel: Tohru... your head maid has been staring at me all day today. I don't know if I did something to upset her."

When Tohru was brought up, Gabriel felt a headache coming on—she had definitely noticed Tohru staring at her all day and was worried she had somehow offended her.

But Shin knew why Tohru had been so focused on Gabriel today. However, since Gabriel didn't seem to realize that Tohru's dragon horns and tail weren't part of a cosplay, he didn't reveal the truth.

"Zuke: Don't worry. Tohru is like that with all the girls around me."

This was true. Tohru was quite prone to jealousy. Although she had gradually come to accept that Shin had many girls around him, she always tried to assert herself in other ways.

For example, at night, Tohru always made sure her "battle time" with Shin was the longest, as if that would prove she was his favorite.

"Healing Angel: That's not true. She doesn't act that way with Ogiwara and Irisviel."

But Gabriel quickly noticed something was off—Shin's household wasn't just limited to the few of them. Tohru acted completely normal around Sayu Ogiwara and Irisviel.

Seeing this message, Shin paused for a moment before typing his reply.

"Zuke: Their situation is a bit special. Are you sure you want to be like them?"

"Healing Angel: ...Oh."

At this, Gabriel seemed to realize something and suddenly fell silent.

As an otaku, even though she mostly used her computer for gaming, she had inevitably come across some adult content online.

Thinking about how Sayu Ogiwara and Irisviel acted around Shin without any sense of boundaries, Gabriel quickly understood what was going on.

After a long pause, Gabriel finally replied.

"Healing Angel: That kind of thing is still too early for me. I'll think about it later."

"Huh?"

Shin was taken aback by this response.

From the looks of it... Gabriel didn't seem to be outright rejecting the idea. She just thought it was too soon.
