"You know, I was really surprised when you told me you were opening an entertainment company. Who would have thought our queen of social media would decide to do that? But I have to say, with your talent, success is inevitable," I said, folding my hands and nodding confidently.
"It's all thanks to you supporting and believing in me—unlike my family. I can't believe they want me to just sit at home and be a housewife, waiting for my husband to come back. Imagine me being a baby-making machine? Oh, hell no! That's not me. I'd rather work my ass off than be a housewife. Besides, my husband supports my ideas and doesn't mind me being a working wife. The idea that women must stay home and be baby-making machines is bullsh… Ughck!"
Suddenly, she looked like she was going to throw up. She rushed to the bathroom, and I followed to make sure she was okay. After she threw up, she got up to wash her face.
"Hell no! Jiyeon, don't tell me you made me a godmother?" I said, covering my mouth in excitement.
"No! It can't be, could it?" she said, shaking her head in disbelief.
"There's only one way to find out—and it's with a pregnancy test. Luckily, there's a store just down the road. I've got to say, the location you chose for your company is perfect. But now's not the time to talk about that. Let's go—we can't waste time. I have to prepare for my god-baby/babies!" I said, taking her hand as we headed for the store.
We bought three pregnancy tests and went to the bathroom for testing. While waiting, we grabbed some snacks.
When the waiting time was up, we checked the tests—and there they were: two red lines. One even showed how far along she was.
"Jiyeon! Two lines! I'm going to be a godmother!" I screamed, jostling her in excitement.
"And you're going to make your god-baby waggle for the rest of his or her life," she said, making us both burst into laughter.
We took the tests back to surprise Haejun. Then we went to the company to finish moving in.
While busy, Jiyeon said something that made me laugh harder than I had in a long time.
"Damn! I just realized my baby has the richest woman in Korea as his or her godmother. Hello, sweet life!" she said, looking up dreamily.
I laughed so hard I started crying—until one call from her father ended all that.
The twins were sick and had been sent to the hospital. I could hear the fear in his voice.
We dropped everything, leaving the movers to finish moving the furniture alone. I got in the car with Jiyeon and headed to YM Medicals. When we arrived, Abeoji and the housemaid were anxiously waiting outside the OR.
"Abeoji! What happened to the twins? What's wrong with Ha-jun and Ha-eun? Didn't you follow the instructions on the iPad?" I asked, tears streaming down my face, fear taking over.
"Calm down, Haneh! I'll tell you what happened, but you have to stay calm," he said shakily, trying to find the right way to break the news.
"After waking up, Ha-jun and Ha-eun started crying nonstop, so we thought they must be hungry. We tried to feed them as you said, but they refused to eat and cried even more.
"Mother suggested feeding them mi-eum, saying it was what they should eat. I tried to warn them, but I was outnumbered—after all, they are women and mothers too, so I couldn't stop them. The twins stopped crying, but after a while their faces turned red. We checked and found they had rashes and high temperatures, so I had no choice but to bring them to the hospital.
"I told everyone not to come because I wanted to avoid stressing you when the twins needed you most," he added, bowing his head remorsefully.
"Who came in contact with the twins?" I asked, trying to figure out what triggered their allergy. I knew Abeoji, Madam Park, and Jiyeon's mom don't wear rose perfume.
"It was me—the housemaid, Mother, Jiyeon's mom, Jungwoo, and…" he paused, hesitating as if afraid to say the next name.
"And who, Abeoji? You have to tell me because if you don't, I won't know what triggered their allergy," I pressed, my mind racing with questions.
"It was Gyuri," he said softly, lowering his voice and bowing his head, bracing for my reaction.
Before I could explode, the doctor came out of the OR, followed by nurses pushing the twins on stretchers.
"Doctor, how are my babies?" I asked, hoping the worst was over.
"They're fine now. They're being moved to the VIP ward. You can see them, but please pay close attention to their diet. They had reactions to food poisoning and allergies, but luckily they were brought in early—otherwise, it would've been a disaster," he said, tapping my shoulder before leaving.
The twins were moved to the VIP ward. We went in to check on them, and there they were—sleeping peacefully as if nothing had scared us at all.
Once I was sure they were okay, I told Jiyeon's dad to look after them and left with Jiyeon. I knew if I went to the Park's old house alone, someone might die.
