Erin never expected Kiera's reaction to be so intense.
For a moment, she forgot what she wanted to say and just stared at her blankly.
Kiera fixed a sharp gaze on Erin, and after waiting for a while without hearing her explain what had happened to her mother, she grew increasingly anxious: "Speak up!"
Erin swallowed hard: "I..."
At a loss for words, Lewis walked up to the two and spoke calmly: "Your mother is probably fine."
Those words allowed Kiera to regain some sense.
She turned to Lewis: "What did you say?"
Lewis spoke bluntly: "She said something happened to your mom, probably just to test your reaction. She didn't anticipate you'd get so worked up."
Kiera suddenly turned again to face Erin: "Is what he said true?"
Erin was on the verge of tears as she nodded: "Yes, your mom is fine. Besides, news about the South Family only reaches me once a month at most. Even if something had happened to her, I wouldn't know by now."
Reason began to return to Kiera.
